Primitivism is justly derided, but there are other solutions to the alienation caused by our modern money driven technological society. We can have a better world if we ask for one.

I think gen 1 or gen 2 of the TPU explicitly supported short ints.

This argument rests on the idea that inequality is equal across systems and that no system attempts to set a floor on how far you can fall or a ceiling on how far you can rise.

Well, the US _is_ imperialist and also doesn't care about implementing quality social programs. So both are true.

If you want the left perspective, all or nearly all housing would be public housing. This cuts landlords and banks out of the loop and decreases housing prices for everyone. No one goes homeless. You can move whenever you want, though there

This is far too celebratory of markets. Markets pay for things that people of means want. If I make a useless toy that delights a rich person I am paid lavishly. If I make a useless toy that delights a poor person I get next to nothing.

Hopefully a tighter labor market will result in higher wages for workers, reducing the necessity of overtime. There's some evidence that in the united states that employers are so powerful that even the tightest labor market in years i

For what it's worth, changing the voting system to, e.g. ranked choice or theoretically superior variants would automatically open up the viability of third (and fourth) parties. Right now, if a popular movement becomes so excited that

It's because the right benefits from low turnout. The left, representing the interests of the proletarian majority, benefits from large turnout. The Democratic party, a center left or center right party depending on who you talk to, ha

The first is a good idea, but the second is not. Voter ID cards are historically used to make it harder to vote and thus compromise elections. In person fraud is very uncommon, and it would be very difficult for a foreign government to pull

That second link you posted was excellent. It's a very cutting criticism. "When the Analog Research Lab posts a picture of Dolores Huerta on the walls of a company whose engineers have no unions, it demonstrates its own power to t

I think that's an acceptable requirement. After all, you wouldn't expect an app to work without downloading it. If instead of using lzma, gzip were used, I bet you'd be able to include some code that would unzip itself using

I added the part about the Welfare State because that's what we have today that favors workers, not because that's socialism. It's a manifestation of social democracy, I'm in agreement with you.

The capitalist is able to procure computers from other workers because they control capital. They then take part of the proceeds of any additional labor attached to it. This is the extraction of surplus value that is being discussed. The wo

It was a frustrating read, but for what it's worth, he does raise the point that capitalism is powered by growth and that the growth began to go haywire in the 70s. He is correct that what comes after capitalism will be very different,

I am generally supportive of your position, but these are actually organized as "State Capitalism". They are not subject to internal democratic controls. Hierarchy still exists though there is nominal democratic political control.

It's not all, though it is the astounding majority. Non-profits are not capitalist though they can mimic them in internal structure and worker co-ops are a kind of market socialism as the workers own the means of production.

It's trivially true. A worker produces something and gets a fraction of their value paid back to them. They would not have been hired if it were not so.

I had a few reactions to this concept. 1) The idea of a set of reusable APIs around data ownership could actually be the foundation of a new internet. If it becomes impossible to concentrate data, the system will be more resistant. 2) The a

You can do a lot in blue states/towns, but it involves pushing the Democratic party further left (Medicare for All, Abolish ICE, Affordable housing, and more) if that's your cup of tea.
