I think drone strikes were a stupid solution the first time they killed a bunch of people who just happened to stand next to the intended target. Then they went downhill from there. (Edit: for instance going after someone based on very ques

As disgusting as what the US/UK does, it leans more towards cloak and dagger, rather than "look at as, we can kill anywhere and no-one will give a fuck about your, or if they do, they won't dare do anything to help you"

As (insert expletive here) that was, it was more of an Act of War than just an assasination. So totally different, though I think it was immoral, strategically unsound, and stupid. Also loathable and with no regard for innocent lives.

What I find most concerning is, where are all the "normal" reporters - and I don't mean the unicorn unbiased ones, but regular, biased but not actively pushing their fringe ideas. (I mean, it's ok to have fringe ideas. B

You mean if CO2 is not causing a global warming? And you don’t think global warming will eventually cause an economic slowdown at Covid19 or worse levels, permanently? I’m not so optimistic.

Yes, I remember a tiny buzz around 2001 for it. I considered it but I couldn't find much information and then Python distracted me for a decade.

I was mildly against it, but now that it’s implemented I feel a little different about it. I think the main impact is going to be cultural - people are going to start feeling weird about using disposable plastic in everything. It’s going to

Makes me wonder about the Spectravideo (Z80 based) machines. Some had 16 kbyte RAM. All Spectravideo had also 16 video RAM. But the version with 64 kbyte RAM was prominently marketed as having 80 kbyte RAM. (RAM + VRAM = 80 kbyte) I guess t

I appreciate the irony, but as a parent I can say that I much prefer my children on Netflix than on Youtube. (Caveat - there is more deeply interesting content on Youtube, but its pieces of civilisation flotsam to be salvaged from a river o

Yep, exactly like how Microsoft was compensated for buying Skype. This stuff is not without precedent. Skype was not sponsored by a foreign power but by liberal minded founders using P2P technology. Still a "national security" thr

It's sad that we are even looking to what stance tech companies have on human rights issues. The government should have sanctioned China severely already, tariffs, you name it.

My kid brother and a couple of his friends had this skill, too. Between that and being thoroughly spanked in multiplayer games, and taught the joys of Homestarrunner by them, I felt really old. (Early 20s then.)

Some serious interplanetary engineering, likely involving Fusion Candles on Jupiter to gather materials and fuel. Then a constant bombardment of Earth from the right angle should stop the spinning, eventually.

I don’t know. Too me it seems flimsy to rely on insurance alone. It feels like the economic incentives could fluctuate such that there would be opportunity to skimp or exploit insurance. It feels like you might want to add criminal liabilit
