Hey HN. Since this has showed up here maybe a status update would be interesting? This continues to be my main side project--amusingly it's had more traction than any of the startups I tried to build with it. Over the past year I'

The framework checklist[1] makes me think of Fulcro: https://fulcro.fulcrologic.com/ . To a first approximation you could think of it like defining a GraphQL query alongside each of your UI components. When you load data for

It is pretty subjective--I design the algorithm with myself in mind first, but I can definitely see a heavier bias toward exploration/variety being better for some others. Something to experiment with. Thanks for the sampling ideas! In

Also--I think the pseudo code you have isn't /quite/ correct. If x is greater than p, we don't immediately take a random element from the list; rather we go to the next element and generate a new x and repeat. I.e. with

Yeah that makes sense! Once I'm done with the rewrite I'm planning to go through the app and convert the remaining htmx portions to datastar--should be a decent learning exercise.

For the interleaving, yes we want to prefer the item that's been skipped fewer times. I got the wording backwards in the article; I'll fix that. For shuffling, I was trying to come up with an approach that would recommend the top

Fun to see this on the front page! I worked on Yakread full time for about 8 months as an attempted startup, after a few years of other recommender system startup ideas. Now it's a side project that I develop on the weekends after my k

It's a fun part of the code to work on for sure :). I started trying out datastar in another part of the app by the way, mostly for the frontend signals so far e.g. https://github.com/jacobobryant/yakread/blob

Also the whole/part of the point of being hosted on the JVM is if there isn't a clojure lib for something you can just use a Java lib.

Good to know--I'll do another run through the tutorial sometime and see if I notice anything. I know there are a couple things I need to update in the example repo at least.

I applied 9 times and never got an interview. I've moved on from entrepreneurship (for now?), but would love to know what percentile I'm in for consecutive rejections as a consolation prize ;)

Hmm... I like Babashka's quick startup time, but realistically it might not actually matter. I'll try out a tools.deps-based setup sometime. I would enjoy not having the extra dependency. The description of Rails is helpful--thank

Going with XTDB by default is an example of "what do I want for my own projects?" being the first priority as mentioned in the article--I agree that Biff would be easier for many people to pick up if it defaulted to Postgres/

First-class SQL support will be really nice when XTDB2 becomes stable--I'm planning to make that the default in Biff for the sake of familiarity, then anyone who wants to can switch over to Datalog easily.
