Would you maybe consider making a distinction between security releases and regular run-of-the-mill update releases? I see a real value in a service to let me know that there's a new version of one of the dozens of things I depend on. But l

Yes: Django only uses XML in one very limited place, the serialization parsing framework, which isn't exposed publicly in any way. It's used for data backup/restore as well as for test fixtures, but that's it. Further, the same framework al

Obviously I'm totally biased and you shouldn't listen to me. But if you were to listen to me, I'd probably be saying something about how they're basically equivalent these days. Both are pretty productive, have clean readable code, are we

Yup, it's not the first time either -- we've coordinated with them in the past when fixing bugs that affect both frameworks ( https://www.djangoproject.com/weblog/2011/feb/08/security/ ).

That's 100% completely wrong. We've worked with Rails' security team in the past to coordinate releases fixing similar issues, and they've helped us out with discovering and analyzing issues of our own. They're a great group of people and I

We don't just announce this stuff on HN; there's a whole lot more: * Post security release announcements to our blog. * Post announcements to django-announce, a very low-traffic mailing list specifically for security announcements. * Post a

These aren't "drop everything, take the site down, upgrade now" issues, so yeah we'd like to save the tone for that sort of thing. ... but seriously, please do upgrade as soon as possible! There's really no such thing as a "minor" security

I'm a consultant as well. I never take stock or equity as payment; cash only. Look at it this way: if the company's so cash-poor that they can't afford to pay for work, what are the odds their stock/equity will ever be worth anything?

If you hit `/SPOOL/{TEST,IDEAS,NOTES}` you get some binary data; `file` tells me it's "HP PCL printer data". Not sure what to do next with that...

At some point, yes, we'll drop Python 2 support. When really depends on how rapidly we see adoption (from users and re-distributors of Django) and how heavy the dual-version support burden turns out to be. My guess is what we're looking at

So here's the deal: Django 1.5 has "full" Python 3 support, at least from a technical level. It's done, works, is well-tested. I'm planning on putting a Django 1.5 / Python 3.3 site into production later this year. So in that sense it's "do

Hey simvla - looks good, but to actually be open source you need a license. Right now the source doesn't have a license, so it defaults to "All Rights Reserved". If you intended this to be open source as the title claims, can you add a lice

Women in Denmark make about 10% less than men for the same work [1]. Granted, that's better than the US, where it's more like 75¢ on the dollar, but I'd hardly call that equality. I don't know enough about Denmark to know whether gender dis
