You also might look at https://nim-lang.org/ , which is as fast as C or Rust and nicer to code in if you come from Python.

Do not worry ,still breathing here , when I started Fortran,RPGII and Cobol was the thing and Python did not exist. Now Python is becoming the old elephant and new languages like Nim will evolve and they will grow an ecosystem over time.

Yes , but the young contenders already exist. If Nim gets more traction , over time it may replace Python.

After trying anything with rolling release in it, I settled on openSuse Tumbleweed , it runs here on a 12 year old x61 lenovo/ibm , on a samsung with atom 150 processor, on a lenovo T460s, and on 2 tower boxes. There are no complains o

Looking at the current new and coming languages I would take a hard look at NIM. It may be is not there yet but it looks highly appealing, is as fast as the often mentioned Rust and compiles significantly faster. http://nim-lang
