Got my wife one of these after a dell became dropped and cracked the screen. No way to repair affordably. Had it about a year, and it has been flawless. Super easy to upgrade ram/ssd/etc, if we crack this screen its like $150 p

Active cooling tends to have the challenge of controlling condensation, and then of course now you are drawing even MORE power from the wall.

There can be value in "things will be fast by default" vs "things can be fast if you use a careful subset of the language". As well it is nice not to have to depend on v8 being the runtime to get good performance. One t

When we built the Space Shuttle, russia saw that we were building it, did some napkin math and decided it made absolutely no sense what we were doing, and that it then must have had some secret military purpose rather than any stated purpos

Do we need to store energy seasonally to make big strides in increasing the share of solar and wind on the grid? Or only daily/weekly?

the T.50 has a fan, and it is used for aerodynamic benefit, but it does so by helping speed up air through the under car diffuser, which allows them to use a more aggressive diffuser than would otherwise work. It all adds up to a modest dow

What if a wing fails on an f1 car? Or a suspension component? Or a tire? Cars that get their downforce from traditional aero elements are also susceptible to catastrophic failures if they hit bumps too big for the design to handle. Mercede

Yes, but the physics is that the amount time saved over a fixed distance is actually more for the 15mph cyclist than the 20mph cyclist. However the percent of time saved for the slower cyclist is less, but only a little. Basically at

The McMurty as normally configured is good for 30 minute track sessions, and I haven't heard anything about it having a small battery for the day, nor did the weights being quoted indicated it was a small battery. A smaller pack could

Pikes peak doesn't present any challenge to it in terms of length at all. Its designed to do ~30 minute track sessions and Pikes Peak is only 8 minutes.

This is an old school thing with tradition and stuff. Can't bother with safety! Sorta like pikes peak where you go off a cliff instead of into a wall.

The wing starts to work immediately. Just not much. This is a pedantic but important point. Even low speed motoring events aero can be very very important if sufficiently large wings are allowed. Aerodynamic gear for cyclists is advantage

Why is Pikes Peak much more interesting? The altitude there would seem to give its electric and fan properties even more of an edge.

Some EVs have lower top speeds because they don't bother with a transmission. If you wanted a high top speed, just add 1 or 2 gears and you are good to go. Imho the infrastructure required for them will be much simpler than the existi

A fair point, though the few security issues in recent years I've looked at were not the kind of thing you would turn to unsafe rust for. But I've certainly not done a broad enough sampling to say what % of cases are like that.

That is a fair thing to wonder about, but at the moment most of the design decisions Rust pushes you toward tend to be better for performance on modern hardware. For instance using an array based arena to store a graph, instead of the trad

I see many C++ programmers say stuff like this, and maybe it is the case that studios exist which can do C++ without mistakes related to memory management or sigils and so on, but I also observe that: 1. High quality teams like the Linux ke
