Whenever you look closely at what these proof nerds have actually built you typically find… nothing. No offense to them, it’s simply reality.

This reads like a dogmatic view of someone who hasn’t worked on a project that’s a million plus lines of code where something is always going wrong, and crashing the entire program when that’s the case is simply unacceptable.

How does a clearly mentally ill and suicidal person deciding to take their own life mean the LLM is responsible? That’s silly. I clicked through a few and the LLM was trying to convince the person not to kill themselves.

That’s not craftsmanship, the same way being snobby that a restaurant didn’t garnish a meal isn’t craftsmanship. And working at uptight places that focus more on the garnish than the actual meal, suck.

Why would you work your ass off trying to do this for a likely meager raise and a pat on the back? No thanks, I’ll take my sanity instead. Keep this energy for your own projects. Do NOT use it to make someone else rich. I know I’ll get some

When they start moving away from API calls to third parties to their own embeddings or AI they’re in for a bad time. What’s going to end up happening is they’ll then create another backend for AI stuff that uses python and then have to deal

I always read blogs of this type and immediately try and find what the author has actually built. Usually it’s either absolutely nothing or a simple blog generator. Nothing wrong with that, but if you want to build stuff you eventually need

If money is your identity, you’ve already lost the game. Especially if you’re trying to do it as an IC engineer. C suite, directors, and many more probably laugh at their salaries.

The subtle disdain I hear from these types of super elite principal distinguished architects about actually writing code amuses me. Of course actually writing code is far too lowly of an activity, they’re more of an “ideas guy”. Fred Brooks

You’re not the target audience for the announcement, but like many people, they probably already know that and just want to be annoyed.

Why would they build their own browser from scratch? That would be dumb without a significantly compelling reason. The author of this post reminds me of one of those guys who writes an entirely new game engine instead of using an off the sh

How do you know the net value add isn’t greater with the AI, even if it requires more code review comments (and angrier coworkers)?

The evil in this world would love to peddle the idea that having any free time, not living in a shitty apartment with four other people, or not dying of hunger or treatable disease is a “luxury”.

Seems like no matter how positive the headline about the technology is, there is invariably someone in the comments pointing out a worst case hypothetical. Is there a name for this phenomenon?

Seems cute, but ultimately not very valuable without benchmarks or some kind of evaluation. For all I know, this could make Claude worse.

Sounds like these guys kind of flailed around for almost a decade and then jumped on the AI bandwagon. Nothing wrong with that, I’m just surprised someone decided to bankroll them for so long. Also not sure how successful they’ll be long te

I have never seen myself or anyone I work with ever call another developers code “garbage”. Asshole behavior is never OK. Doesn’t matter if you’re Linus, Steve Jobs, or the other endless list of bullies who happen to have some talent.

All of this stuff seems completely insane to me and something my coding agent should handle for me. And it probably will in a year.

Haven’t read the entire paper, but the abstract seems to be focused on speed only. That is one component, but if alternative optimizers get similar results but use x2 less memory, that’s huge.

The only thing that matters is setting up a near monopoly where you have a chokehold. Valve did this with steam. Now it literally does not matter what asinine and silly business practices they do internally as long as they keep the money pr
