While this is a neat use of the Pi, today you can get BLE beacons like the Gimbal Series 10 for $5 (or 3 for free to start) that can act as iBeacons. http://www.gimbal.com/gimbal-proximity-beacons

Years ago there was a triangle problem on an ACM Scholastic Programming Contest. It looked simple. Given three lengths, output whether that forms a triangle or not and whether it's a right triangle or isosceles triangle. Simple right?

That's why they avoid making any decision until absolutely forced to. If it's big enough, get your manager to decide. If it's small enough, "empower" someone below you to make the decision.

It was maybe about 5 years ago that I was still running DSL on a old Dell Pentium II laptop on the side of my desk. It made a decent ssh / x3270 terminal and acted as a digital photo frame most of the day. But it could do some light we

FDA approval / clearance is a nightmare. I think it took Vioguard 4+ years to get it for their UV-sanitizing keyboard. You need to be connected, funded, and/or patient. http://www.vioguard.com/

I'm tired of paying 70% of the new price every single year for an update. Especially when they give Parallels customers nearly 20% off for switching. How about a little more reward for loyal customers?

Screenshots or a way to easily paste them. Being able to quickly sketch a few rough things on an image. Just lines, text, arrows, boxes, circles, etc. would be fine.

I'd be reasonably confident running Chrome with almost every plugin (especially Java and Adobe ones) disabled. It's been a long time since I've had any AV alert when running that way. I do keep a copy of Firefox with Flash an

I swear Apple did this to me repeatedly last year while I was travelling for a month. I could never purchase apps. One problem with this is VPNs. I regularly VPN (both to my house and via a service like Private Internet Access) so my locati

I'm moving to nonsense and random answers stored in Lastpass but what I had been doing is just answering them as if I were one of my friends. I have a dozen friends where I know most of those answers.

No, but there's hope it'll be supported under iOS8's app extensions and custom keyboards. It does have it's built-in browser for now.

Same here. I set my main ringtone to silence and only a few contacts can actually ring my phone. I disable almost all notifications and my phone's on do-not-disturb from 10-7 every night. Maybe my laptop needs a hosts file to block &qu

At my last company I maxed out at 28 days a year after seven years there. Standard is usually 2 weeks but if you negotiate as part of your hiring, you should be able to get 3 weeks, especially if you're in a more senior or managerial r

I believe Microsoft's file extensions and the 8.3 naming scheme are descended from Digital's 6.3 naming in VMS, RT-11, etc. DEC even used a number of the same extensions: EXE, COM, OBJ. Not sure where they came from prior to that.

Maybe I need to try mine again but last year I went through a stack of CD-Rs I burned back in 98-99 and didn't have one failure. They've pretty much lived in the dark in a plastic tub, but in Florida (indoor) humidity.

The first Unix machine I used had 768k or less and was a 6 or 8 MHz 68000. It's still bizarre to think that we had 12 users on a TRS-80 at once, via serial terminals. Even more bizarre, my first *nix was Microsoft Xenix. http:/&#
