Imagine a king ruled the entire world, and he didn't have any limits to his power. Would he treat everyone to eternal feasting? Or would he blow up his enemies and pick favorites among the remaining people? It's not hard to answer

If you genuinely enjoy something, then capitalism will do its best to extract more value from you doing that thing until you can barely stand to do it anymore. Anything less is equivalent to leaving money on the table. My favorite example

Terry is a genius that can get that value out of an LLM. Average Joe can't do anything like that yet, both because he won't be as good at prompting the model, and because his problems in life aren't text-based anyway.

Most hobbies are just as dumb when you think about it. Sports = watching grown men play with balls, Games = giving yourself unnecessary problems to solve, TV/Reading = learning (usually) completely useless information

Don't worry, if AI starts hitting the labor market like a wrecking ball, almost nobody's gonna be signing up for 4 years of busywork anymore. The only people joining will be the few people who actually WANT to learn subjects or j

I will never stop laughing at the assumption that the USA government will just let these companies build superintelligence. Imagine the Pentagon just twiddling their thumbs, and the CIA decides to just passively wait-and-see...

They were writing pro-AI articles less than 2 months ago. They can just post AI-hype and AI-boredom articles so both sides will give them clicks. It's like an alternate form of Gell-Mann Amnesia that you're feeding.

If the problem were that simple, the world could be drastically improved by just throwing more money at infrastructure jobs and getting more people employed, while also improving infra. So I doubt it's that simple. But AI is probably g

But who would make that adjustment? Companies aren't going to choose to make less money. Governments can fiddle with minimum wages and full-time thresholds, but companies will work around those and pass any cost-increases to the custo

I'm very bullish on genAI, and I bought the new phone, but I really don't think the features shown are that exciting yet. It feels like they're laying the groundwork for more powerful AI to be ready to do things in your phone

I think it's a good deal. After-tax price is ~$1082, trade-in is $699, with a $200 store credit ($300 with a Google 1 sub), and $21 back from 2% credit card rewards. So ~$162 cost, which is not much more than the increase in trade-in v

I hope they never know what it was like playing World of Warcraft in 2006, when quests sometimes asked for 10 of an item with a low drop rate, from mobs with a low spawn rate.

At about $110k for 8000 daily calories, you might as well just wait for android robots to be capable of farming and then buy one from a company like Figure, though you'd then have to worry about it getting hacked and trying to knife yo

The space race cost hundreds of billions in today's dollars, and AI could do a lot more for/to humanity than put a flag on the moon. And I'm guessing Uncle Sam will want control of these AI companies anyway if AI starts looki
