On a positive note, if you eat non-meat alternatives, you both avoid funding more factory-farming and you also help fund better non-meat options. You can't make much difference, but it's not like this is the only thing going on

Nothing is ever "correctly priced". It's just more obvious with certain markets. Best example of this is when people say they want to pay "only their fair share of taxes". That's just, not how taxes work...

I'd always hoped they'd bring the price down over time as economies of scale kick in, but man did that not happen. What a shame.

Holy shit, AIs just got a gold medal on the math olympiad and you guys are STILL spamming this shit in every thread. I don't even know how you can reach this level of inertia on a topic, did you short Nvidia stock or something?

"worth celebrating for" The correlation between "companies make smarter AI" and "our lives get better" is still a rounding error. Many people will say "don't worry, tech always makes our lives better

If you want credit for getting predictions right, you have to predict something that has less than 100% probability to happen.

Gwern used to be great to follow, but he fell off hard. His ego doesn't match his (known) accomplishments, and he hasn't had anything original to say in awhile. RIP Gwern and Google+.

Nekopara and Sabbat of the Witch are safe... for now. Hopefully they don't know about the little-sister route in Making Lovers.

They went after no-name games instead of Summer Memories or Treasure Hunter Claire? Weak. They should have at least aimed at Living With Sister: Monochrome Fantasy.

Can you name a single job like this? It's much easier to name jobs where the accuracy doesn't compound, like daily customer service chatbots, or personal-tutor bots, or news-aggregator bots, or the inevitable (and somewhat dubiou

"there is no feasible scenario in which the majority of people are unemployed" Try not to ever forget you said this, you'll find it hilarious in the future. The value of typical human labor never stops falling, while the cost

Yeah that's called Neoclassical economics, I don't doubt it's true. The question is whether the "shortages, abuse, or other issues" are worse than very-high unemployment scenarios in futures where the value of human

They haven't solved the biggest question: "Would landlords raise rents to take the UBI for themselves?" This study was always way too small for that. We'll probably only find out for sure the hard way.

It's a proposed solution to mass unemployment scenarios. If the government wanted to give people money right now, it would just lower income taxes. If you have a better solution to mass unemployment, feel free to share it with the rest

I'm having trouble understanding, do you think people are going to stop buying iPhones because Siri isn't as good as ChatGPT? Do you think Apple users are going to flood over to the Pixel phone to use Gemini? What is this train-w

The sane way to do this (if you wanted to) would be to give the AI a debit card with a small balance to work with. If funds get stolen, you know exactly what the maximum damage is. And if you can't afford that damage, then you wouldn

The AI isn't going notice the latest and greatest hot new deals that are slathered on every page. It's just going to put the thing you asked for in the shopping-cart.

I mostly agree with this. The goal with AI companies is not to reach 99% or 100% human-level, it's >100% (do tasks better than an average human could, or eventually an expert). But since you can't really do that with wedding p

"a human making those mistakes again and again would get fired" You must be really desperate for anti-AI arguments if this is the one you're going with. Employees make mistakes all day every day and they don't get fired

Googlers told me that appearing obsessed with climbing the career ladder is an expectation of SWEs, though not a strict requirement. Being a good liar seems like a huge plus.

This reminds me of the book Animal Farm, except the corruption here is done by people too incompetent to keep their hand of cards hidden from view. A real power-coup needs to be fast and decisive, and this group is instead just setting the

If food prices went to near zero, healthcare and housing would mysteriously get more expensive until people could barely afford them even with cheap-as-salt food. The opposite is probably true too: if food prices went up, all of a sudden he
