Going into university libraries fills me with awe and purpose. Seeing a shelf of curated textbooks on a topic (eg non Newtonian fluid flow), gives me a feeling of depth. Each book represents years or decades of an authors life. And they con

At his level it is much more than just being able to do what he wants, it’s about attracting resources and talent to accomplish his goals. From that perspective location still matters if you want to maximise impact

Amazing that Sutton (American) chooses to live in Edmonton, AB rather than USA. Shows he has integrity and is not a careerist focused on prestige and money above all else.

Don’t use technical terms like “exponential distribution” and then say the technical details like what distribution it is does not matter. Doing so conveys sloppy thinking while pretending to be rigorous only on the surface.

Thanks for your response. One confusing thing as an outsider is that amyloid aggregates seems like fraud, but tau aggregates still seems to be a promising line of research. Both to an outsider look like protein aggregates.

Just ask how often the author is inviting the local homeless in his city to meet his mother and crash and his weddings. Probably close to Zero. But he expects to be treated like a special when he is traveling.

With over 50 years of travel, the author still does not recognize the unique privilege he is in, and how inappropriate his tips are for most of the population.

I remember making a calculation that a 4 year PhD is about 200 weeks. This means every two weeks you are 1 percent closer to finishing. That got me real productive.

So when US companies try to beat each others products, it is called competition. But if a foreign company of US-trained people manages to beat the competition, it is parasitising?
