Honestly I think it’s not canada vs usa, but Bay Area, New York, and Boston vs everywhere else in the world. These three regions in usa are doing almost all the innovation in the western world currently. Why? Because it’s where ambitious, h

Chatgpt would have no problems introducing the well-ordered principle if prompted, so the self learner can dive into the details if needed. Hints are probably what you want if you’re a self learner and stuck, so actually chatgpt is doing a

Traditional self study is difficult and filled with roadblocks because you have no one to ask for help. Chatgpt helps remove these roadblocks so you get shown the way and then figure out how it was done after.

Since AI is trained by human labelled /generated data, what the article is implying is that humans reduce the world to stereotypes.

A quote I heard once was “(advanced) math is something that should be done alone by yourself or between consenting adults”. Being disconnected to reality is a feature in pure math.

I found chatgpt to be a game changer for people who want to read a math text without getting stuck on something because you are missing a gap in a math prerequisite. Chatgpt essentially fills in the gap between a concept you do understand w

Colleges aren’t scalable either. Ask Harvard to hand out more degrees and you’ll see part of the value of a degree is signaling something you have that others don’t. It’s a zero sum game: the more people have Harvard degrees, the less valua

It’s also why it doesn’t make sense for employees to work 80 percent effort and expect 80 percent compensation. The relationship is nonlinear, most of a high compensation actually happens at the margins; how much better you are compared to

Grades are most useful to a professor if it indicates class ranking of who has potential to do research level work. The only function of giving everyone an A is to prevent shattering fragile egos who have never experienced setbacks before.

It does make sense because grades no longer mean anything if everybody gets the same grade. The most informative grades would be uniformly distributed, it’s an opportunity for the geniuses to shine and give a signal to profs about who to hi
