You do realize that most of the top-tier machine learning researchers are among the thousands protesting DoD work. There is more than enough work, money, and intellecutalism in bringing AI to medicine, safety, transportation, supply chain o

> to point out that men and women have different interests I was nodding until this. Even if you agree with Damore, you can't pretend his argument was "men and women simply have different interests."

Plenty of cities (Chicago, in my experience) have parallel lines 1-2 blocks apart. For the record, I take the transbay bus to work most days, and it's a similar deal (plus I can almost always get a seat). Slightly less convenient with

I have definitely used big-O as the parent described. I think many mathematicians would write it in that way.

Fair point. I'd add that f(x) = 7 can be both equality of functions and equality of evaluations, and binding x=2 suddenly changes the meaning of the equality and the expression.

Most equivalence relations eventually drop any special notation in favor of = In general, = is not rigorous. It's used as a stand-in for the word "is". Another example is when someone writes x = 1, ..., N, meant to imply x i

= has contextual meaning in math, why not programming? It's not like we can fool ourselves into thinking that tests for equality don't also have wildly different meaning depending on context. No operator has a universal meaning,

Conveying intuition is about way more than using graphics. It's about storytelling. I've seen people focus on graphics and fail in a hundred ways, while overwhelming theoretical works shine due to the focus on the narrative.

1. Just because we have not thought of something more abstract does not mean category theory is the "ultimate" abstraction that cannot be surpassed. You would have said the same thing about sets before category theory was invented

And that's my point: if you spend 80% of your time working on a title, you won't have spent nearly enough time on the content for it to be worth reading.
