I think this touches on PHP's real security issue. It's easy to get going quickly but becomes an issue fast. Smart people tend to move away from PHP, but startups find this difficult. Hiring is then an issue and the bad practices persist.

The existence of one bug doesn't imply complete disaster everywhere. It should be treated as an anecdote. Good science demands it. Good science would also suggest Tumblr should get some experts to help them discover anything else that might

I think you fail to give them credit for what they're attempting. Security is the focus of many readers of HN, but Tumblr's focus is the user experience. This isn't to say security isn't important, but they're rushing to make Tumblr as fun

Aren't all bugs effectively a human error at some level? In this case, the human wrote bad PHP. I hope Tumblr will keep us more in the loop on this than when they were down for 24+ hours.

The CMS strategy strikes me as being very similar to how Azuls concurrent GC works. Could anyone with better understanding of GC comment?

Some of their answers seem a little nonsensical. Python, for example, is not blazingly fast, but it is good for some things like I/O bound systems.

I have also started a framework called brubeck for using python's eventlet for coroutines for message routing / processing. https://github.com/j2labs/brubeck I have the proof of concept, which is more minimal as a project I'm calling mong

If the plan is indeed to ditch the app approach, I would be very surprised. Html5 does not offer the same reliability as a native app at this time. It could happen down the line with a solid web experience as the starting point.

I am stoked for this. I have met David a couple times and know he's got the right mind and attitude to do a good job. NYC is not an easy place to navigate quickly. This newsletter will especially help hackers new to the NYC scene.

I agree. It suggests that version numbers are essentially meaningless when the consumer of the versioned item is only concerned with what is supported. It almost seems reasonable to think any browser level 7 should have full HTML5 compatibi
