Even this scheme is quite clever from a self-marketing pov. He's got people with popular blogs giving his book away, which will get his name around. I wonder what the incentive is for bloggers to mention his book. The url tracks the src aft

I thought this also wasn't hard by using horizontal partitioning..? Which, I think, would have to map back into the application too.

Are the twitter guys explaining their solutions to problems anywhere? I recall DHH saying scale is not an RoR issue, but twitter appears to have scaling issues on RoR.

I also can't help but feel like developing for the iphone is like developing for a soon-to-be-obsolete technology. I don't know when we should expect to see android phones, but I'm drawn to the openness of it and see an opportunity to becom

I'm fairly sure the twisted framework for python was also developed here... If not created, then it certainly has major players at ITA.

I can speak about development practices in the financial community if you're interested. We generally use java and perl for everything. Very little of it is web-based but it might be good insight into an environment where the main priority

It's certainly useful to know how things got to where they are, but it's not always necessary. Even in history circles people debate how important history is if the lessons can be handed down via knowledge of good-practices. If you want to

Don't apologize for your curiosities. This is the first of many times people will knock you down. Brush the dirt off and keep going if you don't see a lesson in what people tell you.

You can select with a mouse too. In my opinion, if you're using Emacs OR Vim you've already won. Apples and oranges, sure, but still fruit where notepad is kinda like a big mac.

You're responding to a vim/emacs comparison so I'll be the first to say you dont need to use the mouse in emacs just as you don't need it in vim. Hit ctrl-space to start a select. Move the cursor until your text is highlighted (you can skip

It'd be neat to somehow highlight really unpopular views while still being able to filter things out that are simply trash. YC doesn't have much of a problem with this right now, but it could help suppress the noise from the random waves of
