Amazon is too big. It attracts too many bots and fake reviews. They also have no incentive to remove fake positive removes as it is a conflict of interest for them to sell as many books as possible.

I have no doubt that a lot of the economy is built on bullshit jobs, but most people do at least "some" work. It might not be necessary for our survival, but I'd like to think human society has moved beyond that. Still, I

On principle I don't think they should. Twitter intentionally degraded an existing service. I don't think they should even spend a single dollar as they have proven themselves unreliable with changing things on a whim. It's n

So clearly Oppenheimer and then Barbie right? I'm assuming Barbie is some kind of post-apocalypse hypnosis coping method of a society.

If I had to guess it is because it is already developed, in a format people can already understand and is dynamically configurable to do what they want now and could change in the future.

Honestly I think this makes a lot more sense than Twitter. It always felt wrong to me that Twitter was used for anything resembling official communication. Whether it be a local news network, fire station, local government or the president

Wouldn't a free market eventually lead to all these insurance companies combining into 1-2 even more mega insurance companies until there is no competition again? At least if all their profits are capped there is no reason to merge.

Aren't there laws that require insurance companies and utility companies to have specific margins? They could in theory just print infinite money so they need to be reigned in by governments.

I can understand not exactly lining up, but considering how large the country is and how Beijing is so far east it seems like people in the west would have the sun rise at 2:00 or the sunsetting at 14:00. I don't know this for certain

I'm more perplexed that China decided it should only have 1 timezone. It also decided that timezone should be from the perspective of the eastern coast. When does the sun rise and fall for the western most people?

Why do so many able bodied individuals pay at minimum twice as much for food to brought to them? I could understand a market need for the elderly or disabled, but why would a perfectly healthy 20 year old find this to be a reasonable cost t

Will Bluesky have ads and sell your user data?

I really hope in the near future there is some shift in the advertising business where they realize the ridiculous amounts of money they are lighting on fire and decimates the ad driven internet as we know it.

You can't pay for celebrities and attract businesses without ads and data harvesting. The point is that the fediverse is not a for profit business.

Their goal is be compatible with the old fediverse, gain all the users by showing all the instances content, then become incompatible with the old fediverse and kill it. Then at that point there is no more fediverse because Threads by itsel

I don't think the fediverse failed. I think the average joe doesn't sign up for Mastodon and Kbin because it doesn't have celebrities, corporations, ads and data harvesting. Celebrities and corporations needs to be paid, at l

It's been working just fine for years. The people don't want a platform they have to genuinely participate in. They want celebrities, corporations and their data to be stolen and sold to see it as a successful platform for mindles
