I don't think it's an accident. It's the way they talk about what they're doing. Partly because they don't want to be seen as VCs or an Incubator.

Interesting. I'll look into this this afternoon. I'm seeing it consistently handle 2500+ req/sec on my setup, but that's with less than 50 concurrent requests (about 10 concurrent requests via EC2 micro instances...easy to change my testing

I think Basho made a good strategic choice with what they call "Per-Tenant Visibility", which will facilitate other cloud hosting providers that compete with Amazon reselling Riak CS as a storage service. Yeah, OpenStack has that as well,

Non-HTTP apis for internal use. Maybe you want a single-point ID generator, maybe you have some sweet internal authentication method, or session server.

I was apparently working on this concurrently (and much more specifically, not for general use) as dotcloud. I'm really glad they released it. We've seen great performance characteristics and very easy development with zeromq+python+gevent.

All the best. And I was (and still am for lots of things) and EC2 user who is now heavily using Heroku, but just didn't get it at first. That's where I am with this right now. I love Twilio, I got it and had an entire application (SMS sen

X of Y is pretty powerful when it makes sense. In this case it's tough for me to parse. Edit: For me, I see EC2 as virtualized servers, and Heroku as Application management. I see Twilio as currently on the same playing field/complexity as

When you're talking about some work as discrete as "write (or clone) an API Client library in [the contractor's language of choice]" Most of the advice here is overblown. It's a small amount of work, you probably already have acceptance tes

Thank you for constantly bringing reason to this type of comment on HN. I don't read names first for some reason, but reading this, I thought to myself, "heh, sounds like Patrick". You're consistently great.

The author mentions demonstrations. I'd argue that Anonymous DDoSing a target is about as close as we've come to large, distributed, synchronous demonstrations. The engagement patterns are also especially interesting. My last big idea was f

Where do people hear about this kind of thing in advance? I'm new to the area and trying to get plugged in, but it's hard to figure out what's worthwhile and what's a waste of time.

This was my experience in the interview. I felt like during the interview, I held my position too tightly rather than accept the problems that showed up. It wasn't until we left that I could really digest the problems more thoroughly, and t

It also depends on how much you pay for two residences. if you keep your rent/mortgage @ home that's another major monthly expense. If you find a sublet/AirBnB or something this still applies. One of the best times to travel is between leas

I got this one http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/S49843462/ They sell a stool that's the right height for when I do want to sit down, but it's uncomfortable enough that I do stand most of the time.

Yup. SpeedTax, and Avalara are two that I've looked at. Both have SOAP APIs as the primary method of talking to them, and solve the problem in very similar ways.
