With a pretty lavish college student lifestyle you can live on $20K a year. If you're pulling down $100K+ (reasonable for an engineer or an IB, I imagine) that's at least 2 years of off time you buy with each year you work. Not th

Makes sense! This I can understand. Analogously, at the end of a software project you tend to have to take care of all of the little things - re-run all of the tests, figure out the packaging script, fill out paperwork, make sure the websit

Question for you - how much more productive were you on your 80th hour than on your zero-th? I ask because I typically work 50 hour weeks. I've pushed to 80 when projects are wrapping up but I find that the extra hours are mostly only

School doesn't pay for itself (quite the opposite, really). Learning on your own time certainly doesn't pay for itself. You're right in that a larger proportion of programmers "make it big" but I don't believe

Important point - back in 2007, China mandated that all cell phones be able to charge from a standardized connector [1]. The connector they chose was Micro USB. Thus regulatory concerns played no small part in the mini vs micro wars. [1]

Replying "this is not a bug" is equivalent to saying "I have read and understood your report, and this is not a bug, it is a feature." First off, it's not a dismissal, it's an acknowledgement. Second, since it&

Did not consider this. Intermodulation and other distortion by-products are going to be difficult to control although I have no experience with the performance of modern amps for sub-MHz frequency ranges. Building a working prototype that c

you would still be fully wrong in selling the exploit to the highest bidder. It's not ethical to do that just because you failed to get a bounty after reporting it, especially if you only tried once. Well he tried twice, and they tol

The industry wants people who claim to be the best, and that's hard to do while also selecting for niceness. Absolutely true. The reason I point this out is that the cost of a jerk goes up as the size of the team he/she is on in

There's one thing this article misses, and one thing I totally disagree on. Hiring for prior experience - the author emphasizes this, and based on my experience this should be de-weighted. The issue is that as soon as you start to defi

POWER != PowerPC, although they are related. There are/were plenty of PowerPC-based microcontrollers. Freescale, among other vendors, had a few families. It's all ARM now though as far as I know.

I paid about $600 for a Samsung 500T and I think it's a great device, albeit for a small market. I bought it because it was effectively a 1kg netbook with a 10 hour battery and a stylus. It's not as good of a tablet as the iPad bu
