Honestly Taleb's cult is pretty disconcerting.

Heh. Should be noted that basically every top comment here says the same thing in different ways about Taleb.

I'm wary this might end up aggravating the subset of Taleb adherents on here but from what I've seen of him (segments of some of his books, tweets, essays) he cultivates a pretty brazenly idealistic / ideological (as opposed

I have some issues with aesthetic decisions used in Black but the degree of head-nodding on the top answer in the SE post you linked is really disconcerting. The person basically says "well you're the boss so you should kindly rem

No question. Personally I think the first and most important step is getting everyone in our industry to admit that they have deeply internalized biases that they're not likely to be fully aware of and that they have a real effect on i

Yeah that's fair. Im just frustrated with how low-bandwidth those things are. I definitely get a bit of a sense of how a person thinks by watching them do those CS 201-style problems, which isn't nothing.

Yes but my point is that in my 8+ years in the startup world it has a very specific connotation that is, as someone else said, a vehicle to legitimize really inappropriate biases into hiring.

I edited my top level comment for just this reason. Interpersonal communication skills are extremely important to evaluate for any position. But the person you're replying to is saying, correctly, that this isn't what people mea

Completely agree. I've been lucky to have been surrounded by pretty reasonable people in my 8-10 years in the startup world on the east coast but "culture fit" was one of the rare situations that I got in a really impassioned

Agree. iTerm2 has been doing rendering with opengl for years. If you're on OS X its unclear why something like Hyper is necessary.

I sense an implication that it’s not possible to evaluate the ends either group is voting for in this example. The nobility of the action depends on what you’re trying to achieve. Also, don’t mistake me for someone who’s interested in the d

You'd be shocked to know how long after this was shown academically to be a Good Idea™ it took to get it into operating systems like Windows. The reason back then was because application programmers depended (incorrectly!) on sequentia

Of all of the places a Bee and Puppycat fan might expect to find Natasha Allegri's work ... release art (?!) for OpenBSD 6.5 is perhaps the last I would have expected.

My intuition about this as someone who grew up in America and has traveled internationally quite a bit is that nowhere else on earth are the middle classes so convinced that one day they will be "millionaires" than here. This caus
