I don't have enough karma to downvote you but I will say that I think your comment isn't adding to the conversation. He's someone with a project that he feels strongly about; misguided or not thought through? Sure. Instead of

No, I'm pretty sure WordPress is still about blogging - it's got a lot of other features too. Whenever I've talked to a single "average" user they have never talked about "just the blog". Every single pers

The upside of IRC is not having to have so many different applications to chat with all the different people. If I can use XChat for this, that would be bad-ass. Also, one important feature I think would be crucial is integrating with Googl

Because there are multiple mature web frameworks for Scala, I think. Go has yet to produce one (Revel? I think is coming close). I think web frameworks help drive adoption. I see that happening with Haskell too (as web frameworks mature mor

I think that's what Rust is coming on to the stage for, no? It's going to be a while before it's ecosystem is mature enough but I think that's a promising language.

I agree, I'm not a Go lover but I'm learning it though because it will be prominent - like Javascript, no matter how much I hate that language. Haskell on the other hand is incredible but the learning curve is pretty rough. I have

Wouldn't it be easier to port some of Ghost's themes over to WordPress instead of building a whole new blogging platform??? You could even raise funds for that! But I just don't see Ospari going anywhere - the concept is not

Pick up Knuth's The Art of Computer Programming series along with Concrete Mathematics. I'm going through them myself right now (slowly, though) and the knowledge I've gained from those books is offsetting never having learne

He could have easily revoked any UPDATE and DELETE commands from your privs list. INSERT, CREATE, SELECT is (usually) plenty fine and any database migrations that need to happen should typically be reviewed by him then run by him.

Papertrail is great for this...you can of course setup syslog to route to a central server and just be logged in tmux / screen on that particular machine to read off the stream of logs (I prefer papertrail though + saved searches and h

I've gotten in the habit of explicitly declaring the types of everything I can. As you already mentioned it's a form of (excellent) documentation that I find myself missing in many languages - when writing Python I get frustrated

This is a great comment. I love that you aren't regarding the internet like a junky with remorse, that you are solution focused and have found a pleasing balance in your own life. I'm not sure I could give up internet at home but

I'm sure some crowdfunded projects have ended up being mis-managed but that isn't a very fair statement to leverage against these guys (if you don't know them).

I'm not immersed in either business but I think you're making your argument too black-and-white. Snapchat is doing something valuable (I don't exactly know what) but I do not think it's better than what IBM is doing, I
