I'm not at all in the same boat as you; I do not and likely will never primarily rely on LLMs for information. But it's fascinating to hear that even folks who do don't find this approach useful.

That's the whole shape of AI for consumer-facing functions like this. It's not superior to the previous experience, but huge sunk costs and a misguided belief it's the "next thing" is leading companies to try to for

Kind of Google to create a market opening for its competitors like this. I hope Kagi, Bing, and DuckDuckGo are taking notes.

Yeah, reading this, my first thought was: "that's the neat part - nobody!" The point is capital accumulation either for accumulation's sake, or to ensure survival of the few at the expense of the many. And it doesn'

And to think, if they could just take less , and be satisfied being billionaires, not tens of billionaires, this could all be avoided... people don't ask for much. Give them a little, you'll be fine. But that won't please Th

Hard agree. I am an eBay seller and this had me thinking actively about what I'd have to do if they went under or stopped offering a quality service.

Do you check whether the plane you're on is new or used, typically? Every major carrier in the US regularly buys and sells their planes. See for example https://www.slashgear.com/1858614/why-united-states-airlines.

Ryanair was founded more than 40 years ago. An established budget airline choosing to strategically make an expensive choice isn't the same as a new airline starting up.

This is almost exactly the opposite of what most new airlines do. The fastest, cheapest way to get a good plane is to buy an old plane from an existing airline (preferably one going out of business, so you get a deal) and renovate it a litt

Yeah, my tech is a trainee. I'm sure one who's been doing it for years would go faster, but she's inexpensive and I don't mind helping her learn! The results have been solid so far.

I get electrolysis (from a professional, not DIY, lol) and it does hurt a fair bit, but it's not intolerable for me. It's roughly the pain of tweezing a hair, only repeated a couple hundred times per session. I put on a podcast an

A few years ago, I got a tour of Starbucks headquarters from a friend. One thing I didn't expect: it's literally filled with rooms where people just taste coffee, all day, every day, to make sure it's what it's supposed

I think this is exactly the issue, and it is not actually a partisan issue. I feel that urge, too -- how bad would it be, really, if I got what I wanted and people who thought like me did too? How much do I really care about the fates of fo

Is there anybody outside of the Trump administration who is in favor of doing this, and believes there is any good faith behind the decision? To be clear, I'm not asking if you're against DEI and support a review on those grounds

It's definitely NOT a false promise of efficiency, at least, not in all or many cases. My wife is a physician, and when permitted by patients, uses one of these tools. It's been an enormous time-saver for her. She works a 32-hour

But you didn't have to start working there, is the thing. That's what always confounds me. If you are capable of being hired at Palantir, there are thousands of non-evil companies who would be happy to have you.

I work with several local recyclers. Most of the machines they get are either usable but old, or just something somebody didn't want anymore! Truly damaged machines are rare.

I don't -- that's why it's a hobby. If I had to earn a salary from this, it wouldn't be viable. Most of my machines come with at least some defects. Some are ready to go in a few minutes, some take several hours or days.

I run a similar "hobby business" - at least that's what I call it. I've posted about it before on here; I refurbish and resell old electronics, mostly laptop computers. As of today, I've sold more than 800 machines
