Firebase allowed us to build socrates.io over one weekend. We didn't have to write a backend, plus we got realtime for free. I'm excited to see their product mature.

the main idea is ease of integration. the developer doesn't have to write code to queue and dequeue, and the sys admin doesn't have to set up and support a queuing system. it's just a drop-in install. regarding the impact on application per

(segment.io co-founder here) - you integrate with one analytics API on the server-side - those events are sent to segment.io servers. you then pick your favorite analytics services (mixpanel, kissmetrics, etc) and we'll transform and route

I am an MIT student, and would not recommend 6.00 OCW. I've tutored a few people taking 6.00 and found their explanations over complicated and problems filtered with unnecessary details. Reading a book would be preferable.
