"I see little evidence that many people are actually using them yet." - My experience has been different , even in large Enterprise Java Shops you now have a smattering of different languages on the JVM , albeit all hidden away. This is pri

Interesting , though i would be more interested in an in-depth article from the thought-leaders of the community about "Future of the JVM".

I don't get it, admittedly this is a fast turnaround by Slicehost, but how is this news for discussion ?

Italy is a complete one-off , the exception that proves the rule i think. Someone like Berlusconi would probably never get elected anywhere else in Western Europe.

Al Jazeera and BBC are by far the top two news organisations in the world. The one common thing they have - independent funding, AJ funded by an oil sheikh and the BBC by the British public. May be that's the way forward , instead of citize

To me - its quite astonishing that the Ratings Agencies still hold so much sway , given that they have been thoroughly discredited in the last 2 years. I wonder, what it would take to have another ratings agency ? Is this simply a case of M

Actually, i think the day is already here , i am seeing quite a few software companies, small-to-medium sized, competing successfully by simply saying "We will provide better customer service".

May be i am not getting the whole story here but if you do allow anonymous comments or "some sort" of anonymous comments then how different is it to the other existing authentication schemes ? For e.g. on HN i can easily look-up certain nic

I understand where you are coming from , i like the idea of what you guys are doing but i am not on Facebook and will not join FB to be able to comment on newstilt, hence my point about its not for me.

From the IAMA thread : "Yes, Facebook is required to add comments." Reducing irrelevant comment noise by linking it to FB Connect is not a solution. This is not for me then. Edit: Just noticed this : "On reddit, anonymous accounts add a lot

Fair enough, but i never said hire programmers based "only" on their code in github. The assumption here is that certain programmers do not do "technical" interviews well and they can therefore point to their code as proof of their technic

If an employer overlooks good code and instead places more emphasis on an amorphous process like an interview which has plenty of false-negatives and positives , then i would argue against working for such an employer. They have a broken re

True , but then let the code talk , in this day and age of github and other social coding sites - show them what you got and if the employer has any sense he will hire you.

This is a commercial transaction with all that entails. If you as an employer are any good - you will have the best people wanting to join you and if you are not , then well , it is going to be a revolving door. The best people will always

Yes, tech specs do not matter if all you are doing is looking at the device as a consumable. For techies i suspect it will continue to matter.

From the book: "You might not really learn “programming” from this book, but you will learn the foundation skills you need to start learning the language. " This is good. There is a place for books like these. If nothing else, he is at lea

As an experiment i followed up 5424xxxxxx number to check if its a test number. I could track down the card's owner and a little judicious googling gave away the owner's home address as well. Doesn't look like a test number.

This is absolutely spot-on. I have seen debates on T.V where respected Muslim scholars agree on and defend this interpretation - its the duty of a Muslim (Mu'min) to kill or convert an unbeliever (Kaafir). I don't understand why this argume

Excellent points - the only thing i would add is the additional noise generated by Exceptions and Exception Handling code. Java is verbose enough, we need less not more visual noise.

Good point - its not the language translation per-se but the ecosystem surrounding it unless there's is one of those projects where they hand-coded everything and used no external libraries at all. I doubt it very much though.
