I wonder if knowing the different strategies would make pro-humans better at playing the game. I feel like they might already have internalized the different strategies the computer uses, but still pretty surprising to see how simple the so

Yes, all sections in the real book are expanded. The idea for the preview was to leave only the headings so that the table of contents will look the same.

As hackermailman already pointed out, the book by Ström, Åström, and Akenine-Möller has some amazing LA visualizations: http://immersivemath.com/ila/index.html Highly recommended!

Thanks for your question, which I will respond to in a second. First let me explain how we got to 550 pages. I wanted to include a review of prerequisites material from high school math, which burned 100pp right off the batt. Then the main

There is already a section on computer graphics[1] that covers basic homogenous coordinates (instead of representing points as 3-vectors [x,y,z] you represent them as 4-vectors [x,y,z,1], which allows you do do translations and projections

The "core material" is pretty much the same. It covers all the computational, geometric, and theoretical aspects of linear algebra as required for a first-year course. The main difference is the applications. Instead of one chapte

That's true, but it's kind of the same idea, so it's okay. The best way to understand this, for people who are familiar with linear algebra, is to think of the Fourier transformations as change-of-basis operations that conver

I like the suggested price point of under 50$. Perhaps I'd go even lower and require < $40. This is enough money to keep self-published authors motivated to maintain their books and write new ones, and also affordable enough for mos

As a Canadian, I always feel good running compute-intensive jobs in the winter. It's heating as usual, with a side-benefit of computation.

For anyone using Mac OS X, I highly recommend setting up a keyboard shortcut for the text-to-speech tool. See [1] for instructions and screenshots. The computer voice is not too annoying, and it can read news articles and blog posts to you,

I'd say the first step for you (or any new developer that comes to the project) is to document the data model. What are the tables in the DB? What data goes where? What tables change on a day to day basis, and which are "stable&qu

It's surprising to see so few math haters in the hexagon (the thin outer shell). I'm guessing there is a self-reporting bias, since if you hate math you wouldn't really want to fill in this survey... It's also interestin

I guess the "abstraction" the parent refers to is the fact that math isn't connected to any specific domain (e.g. history, chemistry, or bio), but instead it is an all-purpose tool. Also, an equation like a*x+b = c is not s

+1 for gingko -- it's especially great when starting a big document from scratch as it allows you to move and restructure entire documents, something that would be a lot of trouble with copy paste.
