Interesting idea. Tiny typo. It should be 'live' not 'life'. "So I'm betting £10k that I can build a portfolio of products which is profitable enough to life off before running out of money." should be "So I'm betting £10k that I can build

I feel exactly the same way. Suddenly I feel like a curmudgeon. "Maybe in forty years I'll finally be able to use Plan 9." - LOL!!

Know some of them, but others were brand new - thanks. Wonder if I should do a follow-up blog post with more details than just a list of links.

T.H.I.S. Most people don't get the 'schlep' as pg wrote about recently. Startup success stories aren't all about One Amazing Idea and the code that goes with it. It's about the whole ride.

This is the best iOS app out there. I have been using it for almost a year and I can't imagine owning an iPad without it. This may sound like an ad for the app, but I have nothing to do with Alex (the creator) or his company. This app is ju

Glad to see somebody paint the counter-point to all the hype. I don't believe that there is no substance to the 'big data story' but these points hold up well.

If you don't figure out how to create a differentiated service, product or software (!) then you will have a hard time no matter what you do.

Random questions - what exactly does it do? - who's your biggest competitor? - what's the target market/country? - do you want a matching domain name? Maybe we could hash a name out here :)

I really like what you guys are trying to do here. But, I think your sign up flow needs some clarity and maybe some a/b testing with an app like Myna (mynaweb.com). For instance, I currently require 3-7 clicks to understand the entire offer

There are more than a couple of attempts at this. First is CoderWall - It basically let you list each software/engineering achievement and gave you badge for it. Another one is Skills. To by Joshua (founder Delicious). It's a bit of an abstr

Cool! I don't know how many times I have used a silly 500 x 500 image and just scaled it to random sizes as I built the views. Only to have to go back and check sizes in code when cutting stuff up in Photoshop. This way I can just keep an i

Agree with most here. New baseline for such communities is - Email/Pass - FB - Twitter - Google For your specific community, I would consider the following as well - Tumblr (designers!) - GitHub - (& maybe even) Dribbble

Podio - great app! Used it for a while but after seeing the simplicity of Trello, had to move. But Podio is really great if you like the extra features.

I completely agree with your take on it; but pls note the entirely different problem Instagram solved vs. Twitter. If you build a real-time streaming application for pure text based objects, your stack will look very different. But collecti

What you are seeing there is only the visitor traffic metrics for the landing page and the URLs shared out. You aren't seeing the back-end API centric traffic from the app to the core servers.
