AFAIK, changes to this GPL codebase must be GPL. Licenses are always complicated, but when I contribute to a project GPL licensed, I expect any changes to be GPL too. I'm not a lawyer, but studied licenses to understand which projects

Yes. Use what you already know and make your project fast. Today, after some large projects, I miss strong typing but not enough to change everything. You need more tests, but I can live with it. We integrated with a large retailer in a com

I don't have too much data (around 2 years and 500k data points. I was about to move to another database, because a query to old data or long ranges just consumed all my machine resources for some minutes. I can't use grafana beca

Bingo Card Creator is a great example to patio11 answer. I'll never expect someone to pay for it, but we know it worked great for him.

I have around 20-30 instances there and it is a long time since the last fail. In the past it failed a lot (~1 instance completely fail per month), but I think it is better now.

Follow this advice! 3k users is awesome. It validates your product. Get more users to do more money. It is a nice challenge and you'll learn a lot.

I tried to start another project in Go instead of Python/Flask. I never really started. If you want to learn, Go is a good choice. If you want to get things done, use what you already know.

Techcrunch did a nice interview with them, asking some of your same questions. These private colleges have a lot of government support through financial aid to poor/black/minorities attend a college. These colleges are profitable

Azure is the whole Microsoft platform. If you are using Azure CDN, you have the same thing CloudFlare gives you. If it is just an Azure virtual machine, it is a completely different thing.

I totally agree with this response, but as first tech employee you have good leverage. Possibly only you know what's happening and the cost to change is high. You can try to negotiate equity to a CTO position instead of first developer

Any Python code from Armin Ronacher ( https://github.com/mitsuhiko ) or Kenneth Reitz ( https://github.com/kennethreitz ). They have really clean code, popular packages and are open about their decisions. It is

I'm not related to OP, but thanks for this answer! It is not easy to find a clear answer like that for a complex problem. The first time I had to build something to scale at day one, it was a long research about databases, cluster/

If you want normal people to use it, do not advertise it as a Meteor/Django/Rails/etc project. It is an Analytics platform. Backend details doesn't matter.

Python: anything written by Kenneth Reitz or Armin Ronacher. You probably already used something from them. Beautiful APIs and clean code. It is easy to contribute to their projects.

TLDR: Leverage the other things you know. Maybe they are the reason you didn't had time to learn "competitive coding" algorithms. I had the same problem years ago. You must have a good "excuse" to not know these sim

I don't really care if you have your open source project. You can just contribute to some project you like/use. This is how open source works. The most important thing about it is to understand if you are able to dig someone else&

If you are removing Django templating and ORM, it makes completely sense to use something else. Flask is an awesome option, I'm building things with it for some years now.

I don't think so. I'm using Cloudflare as a CDN for my website for 3 months now. All my traffic (~98%) is from Google and it is consistently increasing every week. It saves 20% of my bandwidth serving static resources and some of

I don't send all my traffic through AdSense, some go to other services, which give me less profits with less rules. I have a CPM around $2. depending on the ads platform. AdSense is definitely the best one for me. I started with AdSens

Sorry, never published the URL of this service and really don't want to do it now. To be honest, this is the first time I wrote about it. One of my goals to 2015 is a better project to publish here.

Small niches are cool, but you probably can't live from ads. Choose a lame subject with lots of users and make a clean and easy to use website. I have a small directory website. It's pretty boring stuff, but it is a good source of

I want an OSS customer chat for some time. I'll probably start it this holiday. I know other people who use only Olark/Zopim free plans because it is too expensive and really want something like it.
