I sincerely hope at 44Con that we never see behaviour like that described. We're big adopters of the "Don't be a dick" rule, and "Don't take pictures of people who don't want pictures taken" but that's pretty much as far as it goes. Discrim

I have to say that confused me too. The 512MB limit I thought was serious. It may be the case that the Pi is using a large swap partition on the SD card?

For those of you who want to relive the days of the Commodore 64 (or the Commode 64 as us spec-chums used to call it) there's a very good emulator[1], as well as a site that lets you play games online[2]. If you want to see just what the C6

I find the look interestingly different to what I expected. The loss of colour is brave (given the Digg green) but is at least a clean break, which is perhaps what's needed. It would be nice to have a small bar at the top that when clicked

Incidentally it seems Al-Qaida may be becoming a more effective force in Syria than the Free Syrian Army[1]. [1] - http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2012/jul/30/al-qaida-rebels-...

There was a time when this (computer companies going bust) was a regular occurence. Heck, I used an Amiga 1200 as my primary computer until the late 90s/Early 2000s. I think this concept of investment is perhaps an American or Silicon Valle

I don't get it. The keyboard looks like a cheapo plastic thing that offers nothing different from other cheapo plastic keyboards, and the mouse looks dreadful. Why would people choose this over a normal bluetooth keyboard/mouse?

I started looking into standing desks a few weeks ago, but not having one have recently started using my ironing board. It's not an ideal height for me, but it's pretty good. My goals are to use the ironing board 3 days a week, sitting the

Funnily enough, I know a lot of British people who use the exact same technique the other way around to watch Hulu and Comedy Central in the US.

Hi, I use Postbox. It's pretty cool. While it's not without it's flaws (I'd like labels etc. to be visible in the list of messages, doesn't support mail merge and a few other niggles) on the whole it's pretty nice and to be honest at the cu

I think you're failing to distinguish between companies like Gartner, who are more along the lines of what you describe (i.e. mass-market research) and other companies (like mpclark's) that have a small audience and need a lot of work to pr

If you're in the UK you could do a lot worse than join the ORG[1]. Maybe non-US resident HN'ers can co-opt this thread to post their own local feline alert movements. [1] - http://www.openrightsgroup.org/

Here's a great video[1] I've just seen about flying on mars courtesy of a comment sadly further down. [1] - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4YQBuuhh76A&feature=play...

I think it would be good to be able to cross reference browser usage with OS usage. For example, are people moving from IE6/XP to IE7/XP, IE9/Windows 7, Safari/OSX, Chrome/Linux etc?

This reminds me of some of the fun and games we used to have with 8-bit computers. 8-bit computers running chips such as the Z80 and 6502 were limited to 16-bit addressing and a total of 64k of addressable RAM. For most computers earlier on

This article seems to be a bit of a moan. Is it really so bad that some people will have to download and install some software to update their Android phone? Won't someone think of the WP7 users? I appreciate that the software may suck, but

We do 30 plus bank holidays, hence my initial misconception. People have to reserve a certain number of days for christmas shutdown, but generally there's enough for people to get a couple of big holidays in and time off around christmas/ne

I think this post shows a remarkable difference between American and other work practices. Here in the UK people get a minimum of 28 days per year off work (including bank holidays). At Mandalorian we do 30 days a year plus 1 extra day per

In the UK we tend not to use CEO, we tend to use the term director or managing director. In my day job I'm the technical director at Mandalorian. It's a cool job, but I'm generally pretty overloaded and usually underpaid. I don't do it for
