Not quite. For example politicians benefit from being able to solicit donations over mass text.

The user doesn't care about the delivery tech. They care about the installation and usage experience. They want to go search the app store, click the button, and get an icon on their homescreen.

I wonder if the absence of a driver to get hurt skews the crash statistic.

That's interesting. Would it be possible to embed it in a go program to have an easy way of visualizing logs out of the box?

Or maybe the purpose of the system is what it does. Why assume the intended primary purpose of the planning system can't be making constituents happy by preventing construction?

I don't know the story of how the Android team went Kotlin-first. If that wasn't a deliberate plan they got quite lucky. Could Kotlin arguably be backed by Google?

Doesn't Kubernetes deduplicate layers by hash? I thought the key to minimizing overhead was standardizing on a limited set of images across everything you'll be running on the same host. Just from reading HN it seems like Alpine h

The article argues that AI won't make companies a huge amount of money, which isn't exactly the same as what the title implies. For example the article discusses how open source models have significantly improved. That's bad

That doesn't solve the same problem. GitHub actions in the standard setup needs to run untrusted code and so you essentially need a VM. You can lock it down at the cost of sacrificing features and usability, but that's a tradeoff.

Plenty of big companies have decided to leave Russia because of the invasion. Remember Russia has a tiny economy. For example, ExonnMobile isn't traditionally known as a company that abandons major profits to virtue signal and yet they

Wouldn't that take a separate vulnerability? This is why Google serves attachments off something like googleusercontent.com.

HN's automatic title worsener strikes again. Apparently the theory is that the word "How" in titles is always meaningless clickbait so HN automatically removes it. I don't believe this actually improves things.

Aren't the Teslas themselves a much more attractive and viable theft target? Once you've protected the parking lot from car thieves I doubt copper thieves are a major issue. I started some envelope math expecting this to be silly

Current LLMs are obviously far below the average adult human. Every demo I've ever seen brags about approaching the competency of an ordinary high school intern. Even if they reach above average our whole society is structured around m

We started talking about the end of the world. Now we're talking about an increase in spam emails. I couldn't care less. Spam calls in the USA skyrocketed in the past decade and society didn't end.

There's a fascinating snippet relating to this in the book Rise and Kill First by the Israeli national security journalist Ronen Bergman. Apparently faking passports could take months, at least in 2010 for the Mossad. Traditionally the

Fun fact, that quote has been entirely misinterpreted. > He was writing about a tax dispute between the Pennsylvania General Assembly and the family of the Penns, the proprietary family of the Pennsylvania colony who ruled it from afar.

I ran into this with websockets. At least under certain browser/os pairs you won't ever receive a close event if you disconnect from wifi. I guess you need to manually monitor ping/pong messages and close it yourself after a

No, this is a mirage. There are a tiny handful of major companies podcasters submit to. One of them provides a public API that all the smaller apps rely on. A donation from Apple is not an open ecosystem. > We do get most of our podcast

Boeing sold and the FAA approved an unsafe plane. The fact that there was an upgrade option does not matter: aviation cannot permit a manufacturer to sell an unsafe plane with a necessary safety upgrade.

Suppose we're talking about an app where users can post events. Each public event has a page at /event/<uuid>. So any malicious user can trivially find the id of an existing event. Suppose there's also an api where

I think small chance of collision is a misleading way to think about it when any malicious client can submit 100% collisions if it wants to. Dealing with this isn't a big deal, but if you ignore it completely as unlikely/paranoid
