Bad analogy. Gardeners are not typically w2 employees, and domestic servants are excluded from the NLRA anyway. If you're talking about a gardener at your hotel where you are the manager, then yeah they should be able to complain abo

“At that rate” - your math only makes sense if their spending is the entire reason those campaigns won. I haven’t dug into the numbers, but if those are house and senate campaigns then it’s a small fraction of total spending.

These are pro-AI PACs, not PACs run by AI.

The recent RCT on open source ai bug fixing had most participants feeling like they were more productive but actually being less productive. It may just be perception error, and then the issue you identify makes it even worse.

If you read the article it is pretty clear that they hired a lot of people who lied about their identities and were not in fact legal workers.

Maybe Gawker shouldn’t have been digging into his private sex life including publishing a sex tape. It’s not like Thiel funded round after round of litigation until Gawker ran out of money - they lost on the merits.

Lots of HN discussion here - https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=44522772 - it's an interesting paper but there are reasons we shouldn't make strong claims from it. I would say the most accurate reading would be

The whole point is to tax the bad externality rather than tax the good thing (energy production, or whatever). That doesn't make carbon production good, it just means that you aren't taxing the externality enough to discourage th

I don't think very many LVT supporters think it should be the sole or even primary source of taxation. The main point I see being made is that property taxes as designed today discourage development, whereas a LVT would encourage it.

The author is quite clear that they are just pointing out that the LVT has some downsides, and are not trying to make any case about its overall value. It's good for LVT supporters to understand the counterarguments and be able to wei

This is already part of property tax assessment - I get a separate price estimate for the land and the structure. I also own some undeveloped land and pay property taxes on that. All a LVT does is get rid of the structure part and raise t
