It may be an old saw but I sure never heard it before. Thanks. I'm curious about anarchist thought on libraries, mind telling me more?

That would be like Gmail requiring a $10 fee / year. Much less appealing than free(mium). Sure, public libraries are obviously not zero-cost, just as someone (most likely people who buy ads) pays for Gmail at some point, but they both fe

Can startups solve this problem somehow? After all, there is a market need for libraries, it just might not be obvious since it's somewhat hidden by the taxation model. What would a free-market public library look like? And I'm not thinki

Yes, exactly: http://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=3583136 I think the optimum thing would be to have utter Certainty in localized settings, whilst retaining a good check on sanity on the global level. While trying to woo a lady, you don't

Is there a good "algorithm" for discovering these needs? Is it mostly CRUD software or are there more exciting opportunities? (Much of the draw of the startup dream for me is the chance to work on sexy non-CRUDdy stuff).

My take on honesty: I'm not comfortable being incongruent (ie having a mismatch between my inner state and outer communication). Even a relatively small amount of incongruence (ie minor sucking-up to unworthy bosses, things of that nature)

The people who get things done in this world are often, but not always, cocksure bastards who never second-guess themselves. They may live their entire lives in epistemological error but they don't give a rat's ass since they succeed at lay

Yeah, there's a lot of cached thoughts in UI design. Someone should start an open source lab that sets out to explore and test new design patterns in that space, without any preconceived notions of what should and should not work.

I use todo lists too. I just don't consider them important areas to tweak/optimize. One productivity product that I did like: The time of your life, by Tony Robbins. But it's very different from GTD type stuff, as it focuses more on figurin

Personally, I'm very bitter/blasé toward any talk of todo systems, because the problem most often does not exist at that level. The main thing for my productivity has been figuring out what I want and don't want in life. That's a big rabbit

I think there is a big psychological difference between hackers and "normals": the former see the data as just as a placeholder for the code to grab on to, whereas the latter see the data as important and the code as the ancillary thing. I

I wonder if the part about removing critical thoughts and going into flow would be good for people with poor social skills? Perhaps it would be a way to "get into state", as it's known in the PUA world.
