I’m not the most wizened of veterans, but rarely have I seen someone put in a true solid 8 hours of work in a day (excluding 11th hour crunches), and even rarer with any regularity. The norm in my experience, in-office or remote, is 3 hours

To help, let's call it "anti-paying-for-a-subscription". Ongoing access to 70 million tracks is not without some form of recurrent payment: money, data, attention, etc. Parent's gripe, as stated, are the ads, and there&#

I would call that being cheap, with all due respect. There’s nothing wrong with a subscription pricing model if the value is there and there’s a relatively easy way to unsubscribe.

I prefer to communicate asynchronously via text to keep myself and others focused on work. People become surprisiginly resourceful when they no longer expect or rely on realtime (or near to it) replies. To each their own, of course.

Presence awareness is an insidious overreach IMO. Warms my heart to see petty rebelliousness automated in this way. I'd also like to see something that edits the same Slack message ad nauseam with banal remarks.

Wow, that's an absurd disbursement, even if the procedure might have been done out-of-network. Glad everything turned out okay. The administrator should have taken you out to celebrate. :)

The insurance most definitely did not pay $11,000 USD. They paid a percentage of an adjusted figure, and the balance was passed on to you. Billing and payment amounts usually differ by an order of magnitude.

"So offensive" to whom? The author? We should all interact through APIs instead of conversation. This way language is filtered, sanitized, and translated in accordance with an individual's sensitivities and predilections.
