I'm definitely open minded enough to try it in the future if something about it becomes appealing. But I'm not clear on what exactly that new information would be... I mean, I've worn a watch for much of my life, and I was ha

I'm firmly in the "I don't get it" camp. I'll be amazed if this catches on, but I won't try to yuck anyone's yum. If it works for you, go for it.

Well, you pretty much just summed it up. You differ from the stereotype of Freelancers, but you can't imagine that some recruiters differ from the stereotypes you have of that profession.

I don't like being in a position to defend the above professions, but that's a really horrible way to look at people. I'm sure you were somewhat joking, but still. Everyone has a story and you can't always guess what it

This isn't an example of a "crackpot" theory. Everyone seems to agree that SOMETHING is happening. Even if the explanation is simply known-physics (which is overwhelmingly likely) there is still value in solving the mystery.

This is exactly my attitude. I'm shocked that people don't think twice about spending money on frivolous or even harmful things, but balk at the idea of paying for pure research.

I would say that traveling has been a uniquely rewarding experience. I spent the better part of 10 years on the road. Certainly I could have worked that entire time and banked a ton of money in my 20s. But, while I'm sure I will contin

That line stuck out to me as well. But leading by example is one of the best ways to parent. (not suggesting that kids switch to soylent--just that you can't really go wrong with fruits and veggies)

Your 20's should be fun. There are are a whole host of things that you CAN do when you're young that will be much more difficult when you are older. Working really, really hard is technically one of those things, but it's gen

Your value to a company has nothing (AT ALL) to do with what you personally need to live on. That shouldn't enter into the equation.

Drupal's place hasn't really changed much. It's for people who want more flexibility than Wordpress while having more out-of-the-box features than the frameworks you mention.

I'm going to go a step beyond and say that the real problem is that your company is in trouble. You say below that you have suspended 20% time for ONE YEAR until your product is where you want it to be. Going by that alone, it sounds l

Look at this from another perspective. Being a landlord is great. You sign a piece of paper making you the owner of a property. Then other people do actual work and pay you just for having your name on that piece of paper. If we lived in a

To quote Mitch Hedberg: "My roommate said to me, 'I'm gonna go shave and use the shower; does anyone need to use the bathroom?' It's like some weird ass quiz where he reveals the answer first." You have a probl

One of the lessons I've learned is that things don't really change very much. Obviously the internet has changed how we do things, but not by much: A time traveler snatched from 1975 would feel right at home in most ways that matt

I guess I should have known defending PHP and mentioning Taylor Swift would get downvoted. I still stand by the comparison.

Hating PHP is like hating Taylor Swift: You can't argue with numbers, and sometimes, despite resisting, you end up singing along.
