At work I can't see being able to drop ipv4 for at least 20 years due to applications and hardware which still relies on ipv4 (I've got some endpoints which don't even support igmpv2!) I still haven't had a single failur

Running nat on ipv4 is no worse than running a stateful firewall on ipv6 only, I don't get the complaints about it. Modern firewalls do far more with deep packet inspection, SSL unwrapping etc. NAT is a hardware function on enterprise

Dual stack is the problem, we've still got devices which are ipv4 only. I've never seen anything that's ipv6 only. Even on my standard linux laptop, and corporate windows laptop, with the hack of DNS64, I still have issues wi

Local politics is broadly objecting to planning permission and decide what potholes to spend the tiny amount of discretionary budget on, as the vast majority of council tax goes to paying for care for elderly home owners

I've seen a lot of changes going through since 2024, and I saw a lot of difference between the 2010-15 coalition and the 2015-24 conservative administration, or the 1997-2010 labour administration.

It's the government, I'm sure the wrench will cost $50,000 and some oligarch will be taking 99% of that as a back hander.

Technology has the scale. The billionaire giants have unprecedented amounts of data -- Soviet Russia, Nazi germany, they'd have loved this level of insight. But worse that that, they have a population that thinks its fine as long as it

10-gbase-t sucks, massive power draw, massive heat generation. Use fibre. You'll still run into issues with USB connections and ensuring you have a high speed through them as not all usb connectors and dongles will run reliably at 10g

ip6 tends to cause far more problems than it solves. But mention that in any networking circles and it's a brave network engineer that agrees. It was badly designed in the first place, CLAT should have been mandated as part of the spec

You always get that no matter Imagine 5 devices that all push at 100mbit in 100 milliseconds (1gig linerate) to the target 1gig connected device, then nothing for 900ms. On paper they are feeding 100mbit a second each to a target receiving

Only half? So you're saying half the country's idiots voted the other way? That suggests more non-idiots voted Trump than Harris.

In theory the US has checks and balances. Ask 10 years ago if you could have a president selling national secrets via an api and you'd be laughed out of the room. Carter had to sell his peanut farm. Trump makes billions each year.

This is exactly what the leadership wanted. And as they won the election. Not like in 2016 (where more people voted for the other guy but they won due to the difference in power of votes), or in 2020 (where they lost), they won a clear outr

Charging one car at 7kW, put the oven on, jump in the electric shower, and you're there before the heat pump even kicks in. 20kW is the about the maximum input to a typical UK home (80A or 100A breaker single phase 216-253V). You can d

Plenty of semis and terraces have solar. Including the semis I can see out the window right now. In the UK Semi, Terrace and Detached is about 75% of households and 80% of people. If you look only at owners it's about 90% of households
