I currently use the free Window Keys application for resizing windows. I use it over other solutions as it provides resistance when you hit the edge of the screen. Does Slate provide this resistance on resizes?

I believe they are - more now than ever. However, I believe a traditional developer can jump into the frontend faster than a frontend developer can move into backend development. It doesn't mean it'll look good, but a designer can help here

I've found that companies are more open to Friday beers until someone has an incident on the way home. But back in the dotcom bubble the startup I was at had beer in the pop machine on Fridays. Now I work at home and have a beer fridge just

I was going to rant about django, but I think my issue is applicable to all wsgi applications. I develop APIs that often involve long polling as well as streaming, and while I can do this with most frameworks, the choice of the server in fr

I deploy SpringMVC apps, using an embedded Jetty instance into much the same environments as I do Python apps based on Tornado or Twisted. The biggest win for me is dependency management. One my maven file is setup right, I only need a J

With 10+ years experience optimzing/scaling PostgreSQL I wouldn't go for anything else. It also has me hesitating to use anything like JPA - Springs JdbcTemplate is about all the abstraction I can handle. But this is the kind of answer I w

I developed some test APIs and played with WebSocckets in play. One thing I didn't like, is like a WAR, it wants to be first level piece of software. However, I think this is an attitude I carry from embedding web services into projects y

I used to use 2 NVidia cards. 9500GTs to be exact. Nothing special about these cards other than they had dual DVI output. Nowadays I just use one card with 2 monitors (Linux), and use synergy to bring in a 3rd monitor from a MacBook. If I

Prefer a video card setup that can drive 3 monitors over the Matrox things. The Matrox thing will make 2 or more monitors appear as one. Under Linux you can hack xinerama to deal with this. The Mac support makes it annoying to use. I haven'

I write a lot if code targeting Linux on OSX. Mostly Java (with some JNI) and C. Sure there are some bits that have to be different. Perhaps 5%? But once that is abstracted away I can do almost all work in OSX then build on Linux. Of cour
