I'm in the same boat as well. I'm not in the US but I do have symmetric gigabit as well. I've been using EC2/DO boxes to setup VPNs for me, but they hardly ever come close to my home speed. This is usually due to the ec2

That's actually a good thing - I've done a fair amount of work on autonomous robots (not land) and I'd say that the AI/Machine Learning word is thrown about a lot for no reason. Many of their challenges can be solved wit

remap to caps lock or use ctrl[ which is better than moving your hand off the home row of keys to hit escape. I haven't had any issues pressing the touch bar icons accidentally, not even once. Personal anecdote of course.

About the ESC key - if you're using vim you should be remapping it to caps lock. If you rather not remap, you can always just hit ctrl [ (and this works out of the box). I've been doing this for so long its natural to me even on a

Nothing about this makes much sense - regardless of which generation macbook you're using hitting the power button accidentally will not turn it off (you can try it right now). Did your interviewee keep pressing on it for like 10 secon

It's bizarre to me that you think that 50/50 is good. I'm on 1gbps up/down and using slower connections at home is not ideal for me.

I believe that what helped me the most (I've been using vim for 4+ years now, but still not an expert by any means) is buying a keyboard without arrow keys and also, getting used to vim motions. Vim motions are amazing. People don'

Wait are you saying that an optometrist certified 20/20 is not perfect vision? I'm curious because I don't have perfect vision (I'm at -0.5 on both eyes) but I can read most things just fine (just not far away stuff). I

Hello! This is a great product, I gave it a spin in a local setup with some actual production data. I'll compare it to Metabase (even though you aren't trying to do the same thing). * I really like the editor. It beats metabases A

Python is a system default at this point, just a matter of which version ships.

Pretty much everything this comment said. Nvidia had nothing to do with the first few uses of CUDA for machine learning. It could be done on FPGAs and stuff but that wasn't easily accessible to the masses.

Your comment doesn't make sense. Why is it good to know that a command that you haven't even heard about is phased out? Fwiw you don't need to be a sysadmin to have known of ifconfig. Hell how is it possible to have set up ne

I've run HIPAA complaint services in AWS normal, dedicated instances with encrypted RDS (Postgres) as the data store. Orchestrated for redundancy and never cost me anywhere near those numbers!

Trust me, you don't need scalability. For a personal server, get a VPS (get one from a provider that charges you a fixed monthly, don't get one with a shitty cpu (somewhere like DO/Linode does fine for your use case)).

Not a power engineer, but can't most of the power conditioning devices used in buildings mess with the phase of the incoming AC signal? GPS clock synchronization is guaranteed to be globally accurate.

I'm using FreeBSD for servers and thankfully Gentoo remains on OpenRC. If they switch I'll move my home computers to FreeBSD too.

Honestly we all know that the small instances have terrible CPU that doesn't let you use the advertized 1Gbps anyway. Other than that, even if AWS let 1Gbps traffic go on for a while, you get throttled pretty quickly from my experience
