Here's the maker's description of how it works: http://makermig.blogspot.com/2011/06/how-pancake-bot-works.h... Manually entering motor coordinates seems a little low-level to me. If I had that hardware, I'd love to make a visual pancake

People tend to forget just how long tablets have been around. The first boom of pen driven tablet computing was in the very early 1990's – twenty years ago. During that first boom, several operating systems were developed which were intende

This seems like an interesting idea, but the samples provided by Adobe are frankly terrible. The text just cuts off at an arbitrary point when the regions run out of room. I have no idea how you would use this to lay out articles of varying

I have to agree with you. When it comes to design, Flock was the anti-Chrome: a huge number of sidebars and tiny icons, all screaming "Look at me!"

Microsoft has a store for downloadable software right now at http://www.microsoftstore.com/ They also used to have a store called Windows Marketplace that sold third-party apps, but that closed in 2009.

Not just the next iteration: Apple has been toning down the Aqua look in every version of OS X. The original Aqua was very much an offspring of the 1990's iMac aesthetic with candy colors and pinstripes everywhere. The pinstripes were the f

The lemming suicide myth wasn't created by Disney, but it was certainly popularized by them. Various stories about the behavior of lemmings date to the 1500's.

The front page colors change based on where you're from. A nice idea, but many of the color combinations are unreadable. Finland has dark grey on dark blue, for example.

Some businesses are also using IE6 as a kind of a filtering system. For example, if Facebook Chat doesn't work on IE6, they only consider that positive.

The hypothesis I've heard is that Disney fears people will find the original Tron dated and campy. This might in turn make people less interested in Tron Legacy. It seems Disney will rather lose some DVD sales for the original than risk low

If you want to test the effect, just take any black-and-white logo and stare at one spot in it for 15-30 seconds. Then look at a neutral background.

You could add Newton OS to that list. It was an attempt to do what iOS achieved: a move out of the Mac into mobile devices. Apple initially planned to implement a large number of mobile form factors based on Newton.

I think Google's doing themselves a disservice by trying to make the Chrome Web Store sound too much like the App Store. It sets up the wrong expectation. There's already a user backlash visible in reviews. A lot of people are disappointed

The new Street View in Earth features seamless movement. They apparently do it by mapping the Street View images onto 3D building models. The end result is pretty terrible, though: lots of warping and a visible "pop" when moving from one im

Opera mini tends to jumble pages in unpredictable ways. The way it works is they transform the page into an intermediary format and transmit that to the phone. I don't think Opera has ever documented in depth what kinds of changes happen in

Downloading another browser isn't possible – at least if you don't want to use the IE rendering engine. UI development for WP7 apps is C# and Silverlight only. This is why Mozilla isn't making Firefox for WP7, for example.

The same thing goes for Finland. When we adopted the Euro, it was legislated that cash purchases are rounded to the nearest five cents. Finnish one and two cent coins are minted in small batches which go straight to collectors. You never se

I downloaded the Berlin guide, and the text is in need of serious editing. * There are entries in the index with no corresponding content. * The timeline is in a jumbled order. * Anecdotes and descriptions are repeated in multiple places. *

Cpedia seems to have trouble with terms that frequently appear in other phrases. For example, they don't have an article on Nokia, but do have Nokia 6300, Nokia N70 and so on.
