The advantage for those employees being acquired is (typically) a liquidity event for their current shares. Say Acme, Inc. buys Little Guys N Me for 10 mil....and you are an employee of Little Guys N Me to the tune of 1% (or such). Depend

To be fair, some times you can build things much faster as the process for capital expenditure of sizes necessary is more straightforward. "Oh? You need to spend 20 million dollars on some hardware? Cool. Follow this accelerated RFP pro

Depending on length of time the network is "out" there's a avariety of things that could occur. In general, the master would kick off a bgsave and the slave would re-bootstrap once it received said snapshot.

Agreed. The groupthink mentality here is almost as bad as reddit from what i've seen (say...50 to 70% of the way there); however, i think some of the show HN thing have been interesting to see (and I don't think i would've found them on me

"The overwhelming majority of the businesses on Groupon are failing." To use your own words: "This is insulting and frankly, just bullshit." I would love for you to find a non-anecdotal study which shows that most (>50%) of businesses

I'm kinda baffled by memcachier. Who is your target market? I would think everyone who uses memcache would be frightened by WAN latency to your service.

I'm sure there's lots, but it also depends on your definition of success. Here in Chicago we've got groupon, threadless, braintree, thinkorswim, 37 signals, orbitz, and then, of course, a number of places which have cashed out to acquisiti

I understand you want nobody on your lawn...and i'm sure newsql/nosql is just IMS again...and you have an opinion that either functional or OOP sucks. They're all tools / approaches. In general, each has several perfectly valid applicatio

"Your approach sounds like you should have stored procs instead." Not necessarily. As one moves towards stored procs, it becomes more common to place business logic in said stored procs. This tends to go against MVC and also limits some s

It's a pendulum. If management blows smoke and kissy faces all day at me telling me my poo doesn't stink, that's not helpful. If they only point out what is being done incorrectly, that's not good. A blend between the two plus upward rev

You could always hire someone like command prompt to do it for you (i'm pretty sure they already have all this stuff pre-written). heh..actually..it's the first thing on their product list: http://www.commandprompt.com/products/hot_standby

You left out one of my faves. Parent / child tables (ie tabular inheritance). Makes time series stuff so much nicer as pruning over time can be performed with truncate as opposed to "delete from".

The main gripe i've had with it has to do with the subprocess module. It's "semi" unpythonic. There's MORE than one obvious way to do something. Looking at popen, popen2, popen3...that in combination with communicate. But overall I agree

I also don't get why communicate is "clumsy". I've used it in the past with no problems. Is it just because the syntax is kinda weird or it's not as simple as desired?
