Interesting point, but what happens if you click "send!" and then close your laptop. Is your message sent or not? While your point about the server-end being a queue is true, there's an expectation once your message is offloaded onto Googl

It really did. I'm still glad I saw it, but definitely made me feel mixed. Made me not want to share it, when I could have easily e-mailed it.

I thought that was awesome. Discovering this on info-fueled hacker news made it more special. I'd make several changes: #1 Fix the F-11 message. Is this an IE thing? Do a browser detect, and display the right message. #2 Get rid of th

Ok, I give up. The class was great! Sorry Mr Khan! Really I just hate C++. The class was pretty good and bug hunting skills are not something to take for-granted. That's for sure!

You're right, those aren't good reasons for why C++ is awful. I think ERR i give up. You're right my whole rationale is pretty confusing. The class wasn't so bad in reality. We didn't really look deeply into the horrible "features" of C+

The only well-known language worse than C to start with would be C++. We used this in high school AP Computer Science before they switched to Java. Spent about 80% of our time learning pass by reference, templates, and about segfaults. T

This article does not give a good feel of how smart this engineer really is. The programmer says he feels stupid at google. Well, truth is often the smartest people are often more humble! Being the stupidest person among your peers is pro

I don't understand the article, the author says the current googler was one of his "ex-employees" but he is "the guy he just met". Am I missing something here?

Interesting... I wonder if the theaters bid on contracts to show the movie, where the contract includes provisions for the cut the studio gets of ticket gross. I say this because I found, by googling, that the studios get 100% of gross sale

how does it work? do theaters have to pay per ticket sold, or do they pay a lump sum for the rights to the movie to show it for a period of time?

Stallman is way more philosophical than Jobs. Jobs focus was on building insanely great products. Stallman is focused on promoting a philosophy of sharing. I think they are much more different than they are similar. Both have affected my li

In an older talk at hp Sussman's view is we are at the alchemy stage of understanding computer science. Hence why programmers are often compared to wizards. I guess not much has changed in 20 years.
