Overall, i like this guys papers but they strike me as someone who is very smart but hasnt looked through the literature carefully. Many of the techniques he is proposing were already done about 5-6 years ago. However, I imagine that bec

I agree. Do you have any thoughts on how to mitigate this? After all, its in your best advantage and the companies to hire someone with talents because of the value they can bring.

I am with you! Been programming since I was 10 and have 20YoE. Many of my prototypes have grown into full fledged products, I have 40+ published papers, and I am regularly sought out for advice and help by those who know me. Everyone i have

What did you write? I can't see it anymore. Any leetcoders I have hired have turned out to be one trick ponies and actually aren't very creative or think from first principles. I have been in the industry for 21 years now and I kn

Have u seen the work coming out of phd students on dod grants? It's generally poor. There is a lot of grant money from the big tech firms where the slide ts have access to incredible brain and compute resources.

Sure, but none of that was developed by dod in any real way. A litmus test to consider is that the dod still halls belig ml problems but you don't see phds funded by dod going to the dod. The good ones all go to industry because they

I think googles could care less about what darpa is doing. How would I know? I'm a darpa PM and google isn't reaching out to me or my team. I think what you are seeing is correlation but not causation. Stanford was working on self

I believe the contribution here is overstated. None of the tech used for today's AVs relies on anything developed for grand challenge, including any principles they derived. The leading tech today was derived purely from industry outsi

DARPA has a rich history of doing fundamental research but today its largely composed of engineering tasks which for whatever reason arent built by the warfare centers. The days of doing fundamental research are mostly gone in the organiza

Currently, when AI models solve problems, they write out long chains of thoughts (like showing their work in math). While helpful, this takes up a lot of computing power. Heima does something clever - instead of writing out long explanation

Read a bunch of papers on a topic you find interesting. What do all the papers do wrong or ignore. Start there.

Lets ignore these fickle minded people. There is room in the ai/ML space to transform dozens of fields that are completely out of the scope of these larger companies simply because they can't make large enough profit margins to g

I partially agree with this. Using AI has sped up my work by about 30% so far but only in cases where i need boiler plate to get going and i have written the correct algorithmic solution many times before and can quickly check it. I think

Define small. I just interviewed at Dandy (the dental group) and they had me go through this process. Also, do you do any type of coding exercises? where do you draw the line?

Can you elaborate? I like your confidence :) Do you do any coding style interviews? (i had a nice one at my current position which essentially was going through python code to find bugs).

These are great ideas but the timing is wrong. 1. GNU radio circa 2006 did not nearly support the SNRs and modulation schemes we needed; the tools had simply not matured. Furthermore, by making blocks, its difficult to close the loops hitt

Yes. The problem is darpa PMs only have a 4 year window. They also have a limited budget of about 80 million. They also have to pitch a program to get hired into darpa and then further have to get buy in from darpa brass to move ahead with
