I can sympathize with the point you are making. No one can really predict the future, so your opinion may be vindicated. Google beat out every search engine, so who knows. However, a few counter-points: 1) Brand value is critical. Look at C

Such sad news. Iwata's influence has been enormous on my childhood as well as many others. Gaming is becoming a legitimate hobby, in no small part to people like him. He truly cared about the company, the products, and the consumer. RI

Everyone here seems to be criticizing Piketty for weird reasons. He is not saying post-war Germany's debt is the exact same thing as the current Greek crisis. Pointing out parallels isn't same thing as saying two situations are eq

Most people would agree living today would be better than the 1950s. We have 60 years of social progress and 60 years of technological advancement. Economic inequality isn't inherently bad, per se. But in America, it is usually a signi

Ha, I am a TinyCo alum who started his own gaming company. Let me know if you want to get coffee one of these days. Would highly recommend you have a finished game + some revenue before you hit up institutional investors. In the mean time,

These terms seem absurd to me. 1k/month retainer for a startup alone seems awfully high. 5% equity is absurd. Get a new lawyer. If in SF, there are some great tech lawyers who won't rip you off.

This is such a weak argument. It's misleading to include white people in the discussion of affirmative action, because, almost paradoxically, the program only strengthens the white-power hierarchy. There are millions of things we can d

Of course I avoid these articles. First, most material behind paywalls aren't that great. The NY Times hardly has the monopoly on quality reporting. In fact, most money-driven publications tend to be low quality in many respects, espec

At a $120/year for 6 years, you've basically spent $720. That is amazing. I, on the other, have spent $0 on all music in my entire life (excluding concerts).

Am I the only one here who is impressed with Evan Spiegel + optimistic for Snapchat? Everyone keeps citing the fact that the company is pre-revenue and pre-profits, but FB was too for a while. Snapchat can easily turn on the revenue and pro

I see some strength in your analogy, but two main differences: 1) Tax money spent on sending kids to college helps everyone, even the non-parents, since more educated people = better world. Affirmative action doesn't help Asians in any

If we posted stipulations on all the grant money we give universities, every elite university would quickly follow through with it. It's too much money to throw away, even for Harvard.

Anyone else blown away by Zenefits' valuation? It is 45x the company's projected 2015 revenue. Even more surprising, the company is no where near profitable, has a number of regulatory challenges ahead, and is only 2 years old.

You make a great point. A lot of this "ticket to the middle class" sounds like delaying the issue of wealth inequality. One of the biggest predictor of financial success is who you are born to, something you have no control over.

Exactly. If I were Pincus and was a rational self-interested agent, I would've gotten rid of Mattrick at this time, and then reap the benefits of Mattrick's game end of the year. If they succeed? Pincus is a genius. If they fail?

It is very difficult to get financing for a AAA game company since the industry is so hit-driven. Moreover, it'd be rather difficult to find investors just after the studio you worked for just shut down due to poor performance.
