How big's the org? This setup feels unavoidable past a certain company size as growth attracts grifters who then call meetings atop meetings to appear useful. Unless you own the shop I don't see the issue - good money for a day&#x

TFA elides context that poor economic metrics started long before Brexit. I don't have a horse in the race, mind. Just interesting to see 'damning statistics' that don't really hold up to scrutiny imo.

Isn't this missing the forest for the trees? EU as a whole has been crushed by US post 2009, to zoom in and say "recent trend bad!" is really missing the meta issue.

Arguably, if 'real' Agile is ever found Formal Methods would be the antithesis of it: something provable and reproducible is blasphemy to True Believers.

That sounds quite daunting, Python and supply chain security are almost at odds with each other these days. Lowkey surprised that any well-resourced org would use it given the outsized risk profile and poor performance.

Google search with less steps? Still a huge advancement, of course. Wonder how much benefit a meta lang for describing these problems correctly for the LLMs to process into code, an even-higher level language perhaps we could call it Englis

This is true pain. To think a rounding error could free grinders like us to solve Actual Problems like disrupting Chrome hegemony, building user-respecting OSes and relighting the now nearly dimmed torch dropped so many years ago by Mozilla

Weird, I pass through a dGPU for work VM sometimes on Win10/11 @ 2K without much memory usage except I don't use MSTeams but it doesn't surprise me that it needs 60GB RAM nowadays. I'm jealous of your system's 256GB

No, it's not terribly hard for a suitably compensated and skilled team with the appropriate tools and timeframe. Yes, we are doing it wrong. Most of the 'inventions' you describe are more aimed toward reducing the barriers of

Clever code is always expensive, either you're paying for somebody smart to work at their cognitive peak which is less productive for them than 'simpler' code, or more likely you'll instead pay multiples more down the li

Is that unique to the German car industry? Outside of a few tech corps or some small startups, mainly in the US, most shops seem to 'run' their tech function more like buyer/seller e.g. "here's some Euros in exchang

You don't, PM is mostly secretarial. If the actual line manager doesn't understand domain basics they're managing in name only: a deaf conductor. Sure it happens often because tech is a very profitable, grifter magnet, but we

Pete's just a rational actor in this scenario, the real issue is management with no insight into the reality of what they're 'managing'.

Good points, though if an 'AI' can be made powerful enough to displace technical fields en masse then pretty much everything that isn't manual is going to start sinking fast. On the plus side, LLMs don't bring us closer
