I love working with Asciidoc. For me, it's the right balance between Markdown and Latex. I like Org-mode quite a bit too, but Asciidoc, when paired with Antora for generating static sites and asciidoctor-pdf for generating PDF files, c

That's not what I mean. The grammar rule isn't "a" before vowels and "an" before consonants, it is "a" before words that start with vowel sounds and "an" before words that begin with consona

Hello, freedomben. I'm back from my business trip, so here are my answers to your questions, as promised. > What pain were you feeling? The turn-around time for refactoring, adding new features, changing API endpoints, etc. was taki

It's relatively new to me. When I was in college, books like "The Future of Data Analysis (JW Tukey, 1962) used "data is." I believe all of my CS textbooks treated the word "data" as a singular collection back

This is only tangentially related to Khepri, but I'm curious why the STEM community started treating the word "data" like a plural noun, e.g., "Data ARE stored in a tree structure"? I know in Latin, "data"

Khepri is an interesting alternative to Neo4j for a program I wrote to store tree data a few years ago. Of course, I'd have to try it out with actual data, but it seems performant in the few minutes I've been fiddling with it.

The company I currently work for switched from Java to Elixir/Erlang because developer productivity was so much higher. Being able to turn around features and fixes in a fraction of the time has been quite valuable for us.

I think Elixir's Ruby-like syntax is one of the many things that make it great. Comparing the two, I think Prolog may be easier for handling databases (I like Ecto, but it can be a little complex to set up and get right). Both Elixir a

I've worked for two fintech companies (Divvy and Mastercard) that use Elixir. It is excellent language to solve finance-related problems due to its ability to supervise code and recover from unexpected issues.

I too would reach for the PETAL stack you mentioned. I don't code professionally anymore, but when I did I had experience using a lot of different languages (e.g., C#, Java, PHP, Ruby, Elm, Python, Perl, Lisp, Node, Clojure, F#, etc.).

I don't see as well as I used to and snake_case is much easier for me to read when scanning through code than camelCase. This may be why I tend to gravitate towards languages like Elixir and Ruby, who prefer snake_case, and away from l

I don't think Elixir's deployment story is difficult. It doesn't result in a single executable, like Go compiles to, but it's easy to deploy Elixir apps and the compiled package contains everything necessary to run (mean
