Thank you for the apt metaphor. I often struggle with explaining how I feel about this but you nailed it. We spend too much time getting these tiny pieces to connect correctly, and more often than not they're misaligned slightly or in

Yes, I feel exactly the same. I ride the rollercoaster of depression and the impostor syndrome is definitely there. Most of what I do is mired in incidental complexities that have little to do with the task at hand. Programming in itself is

Look at the system this gang you call "government" has created. They tell you you rule the country, but you have to tell them what you want, through these voting things. Then they ignore those voting things and just do as they ple

You are totally deluded if you think that way. I used to refute this sort of sophism when I was 12. Let me paint you a picture. Imagine all there is is the town you live in with your local community. All of a sudden a gang comes in and dema

Advertisers will use this to try and sell you more targeted products, so their advertising costs go down and they can be profitable longer, improve their products, sell more, etc. You should worry about how governments will use this data.

You make an excellent point. I also want to mention that while it's awful that there are victims of pedophilia, there are hundreds of thousands of times more victims of spanking, which is child abuse just the same, but not a peep about

If you want to refute you will have to do better than just show up; you could start by explaining why do we have so many shops using Java and .Net and now Rails (which makes it possible for Ruby programmers to be fungible for managers) and

Thanks for writing this. HN is full of touchy-feely folks, hence the downvotes. For many, it's hard to look past tone. They react emotionally. Sure, maybe your grammar could be better or maybe if we forced everyone to have perfect gram

Common Lisp, C and C++ did not contribute to the field in the enormous way that Scheme, Haskell and Smalltalk did. They're sheeple languages (made with the worker in mind) to control employees, and not languages to empower and liberate

Why must their new mandated wages be higher than the minimum wage? We already have the minimum wage, and I assume that's what it's for? Are hospitality workers better than other minimum wage workers?

I like the metaphor and think it's on point. It's as if you found a way to make cash appear from nowhere. It would be hard to find a reason to work for money. Same deal with Scheme. It lets you do anything, easily, but it makes it
