Thank you for the feedback. I can’t comment about future roadmaps, but we expect v2 to severely reduce cold start problems with concurrency support. WRT deploy times, I’m not a fan either, but this is the cost of standardizing on Docker. I

I’m not aware of any feature that allows you to load a db dump into the database emulator, though it’s two simple curl commands if this dev database is small enough. The storage emulator does trigger the functions emulator though and has fo

Most of firebase’s backend services have local emulators. Some even use the same codebase as production (real-time database). We’re also rewriting the functions emulator to use the functions-framework like prod (our emulator predated functi

I’m not a VP and there is no way to promise that we’ll “never” be shut down, but Firebase is a successful product and additionally drives a lot of Cloud usage (which is certainly “core”!). I just don’t see any reason why a VP would need to

[cloud functions for firebase manager] I understand that the decision to shuffle users to GCP for logs was controversial. It wasn’t decided, as some have said here, because some director had an OKR to fluff up; it was because our UX team co

Hi there, I’m the manager of Cloud Functions for Firebase. I wanted to note that Firebase is getting better for large deployments and we’re continuing to invest in the area. First, the article might have been written before our recent featu

I’m really tired of hearing everyone suggest Google is some boogeyman trying to do something subversive to get your data. Anyone who thinks this should grab their nearest google engineer and talk about privacy controls internally. Privacy i

The appeal of in-app browsers is that apps like Facebook can boost their “time in app” metrics while you read linked articles.

I’m an iOS user aside from a few attempts to switch. But I’ve never heard this accusation before that permissions are grouped in a way that benefit advertisers. Could you elaborate?

Also, these are principles, not compiler errors. These principles will complete and it sometimes helps to have an order of precedence. The number one rule is KISS and would have trumped all the examples in the article. Nit: the article’s pr

SB-8 helped create a framework for bypassing constitutional “rights” and I think it’s time that California, with its direct democracy, bans guns altogether.

The constitution doesn’t enshrine the right to a gun. It enshrines the right to a gun for the sake of a well regulated militia. The NYC ruling was pure judicial activism

Except access to contraception is based on the same reading of the constitution that Roe v Wade depended on and has now been gutted. There are now legitimate pushes to outlaw contraception for unmarried people.

There have been explicit cases of republicans holding public office saying that abortion bans should explicitly not make exceptions for ectopic pregnancies or even cases where the mother’s life depends on it in general
