But the IAP rule for Apple only applies to purely digital goods. If Tinder also sends you a condom with your profile upgrade, they don’t have to pay Apple anything. (This is why Amazon’s main app lets you buy real-world goods)

The section about calculating the availability of hard and redundant dependencies ignores the fact that systems often fail in tandem. For e.g. you might have a primary and secondary database in different AZs, each with 99.9% availability. T

News outlets have relied on advertising to make their content accessible and still profitable since the 1830s[0]. It would be in immense industry shift to change from and advertising based model. The GDPR also holds you liable for your outs

AFAIK, GDPR also applies to EU citizens anywhere. A dragnet like this won’t help.

For those who don’t understand this one, airlines will sometimes artificially inflate tickets faster for people who visit their site multiple times to create a sense of urgency. I always shop for airline tickets in incognito and only log in

If the computer or Chrome crashes during an incognito session a nanny thread would leave the incognito history on disk forever. It’s better to use lower level tools.

Random padding can be detected and the existence of encrypted files would be a giveaway that users use incognito often (which may not be wanted) Iirc on *nix there’s a difference between inodes and vnodes that you might be able to take adva

Really? On HN I only see work history cited to establish themselves as a primary source (avoiding a response of “citation?”) or to ethically disclose bias.

There are jobs that require you to look at porn. When I worked on Google Image Search I had to sign an addendum that I understood my job may require exposure to these images, exposure did not constitute sexual harassment, and I should view

Sorry I should have asked a better question: do the alleged trackers use low level tools that would bypass incognito (e.g. IP address, fingerprinting) to join your information with your non-incognito profile?

The title seems to suggest worse than the report. Can the information collected in incognito mode be traced back to you (assuming you aren’t logged into Google/Facebook). It seems the only remediation would be for the browser to leak w

LLVM has a lot of optimizations. Does anyone have information about performance of applications built by each complier? I’d especially be curious about apps well tuned to reduce usage on the naive GC that TinyGo uses.

GC can create noticeable pauses in the whole windows UX because windows scales vertically in a machine not horizontally in a DC. And per another comment I made, if your OOM handler needs to JIT it can be catastrophic.
