No joke I could not actually work out how to change the audio device on my mac the other day. Took a while to realise it's hidden in the little menu.

If fossil fuel power plants were legally responsible for harm caused by their carbon emissions, they would also be impossible to insure.

This list to me reflects a different element of the .NET ecosystem: .NET teams don't just buy into .NET, they also adopt often buy whole hog into a grab bag of other MS solutions alongside. Are Windows Server, SQL Server, Azure DevOps,

I have a couple of friends who are much more politically engaged and insightful than myself. But all I see them post on facebook are low effort gotcha memes. Facebook has a problem in that it seems to frown on "intelligent" conten

It seems the issue hinges on: did a copyright assignment take place in order for projects to join the .NET foundation? It currently seems unclear whether this is the case or not. Foundation seems of the opinion that assignment did occur, bu

Others in the space do ask for copyright assignment though, eg. FSF.

I understand why Zuckerberg had coaching and preparation before his appearance - because he has the backing of a megacorporation. It's interesting to speculate on who is supporting the FB whistleblower's campaign.

This reasoning doesn't work because the market isn't a sequence of discrete binary choices. If the "opposite" of a bad strategy was a good one anyone could have great returns by designing some obviously terrible money lo

Honestly as a society we should not be putting any effort into supporting manufacturers who are producing hardware that are immediately e-waste. Right to repair needs to cover this issue. Either keep devices in your ecosystem up to date, or

Active directory is on the back-burner because it just doesn't have the same growth potential as other products. Everyone who wants to use AD is already using it, and the market size is limited by the number of employees at businesses.

The challenge with exceptions is there is zero indication at the call site that a function can throw. Does myFunc() throw? Only way to know is to dig down through the entire call stack. Meanwhile with (value, error)/Result etc. it'

Issue is not the existence of the management agent, but the fact that it seems it’s an abysmal codebase.

This is why revenue neutral carbon taxes are key. At tax year end, you pay out all carbon tax revenues divided between every taxpayer. Individuals are still incentivised to make climate friendly consumption choices, but on net the populatio

This just isn’t the case. Docs for many older releases are still stuck behind a paywall on msdn, or even available offline only.

The thing I find most annoying about Microsoft documentation is that many old versions are still locked behind an msdn paywall.

What is blocking this industry in the US? If it's staff, surely some kind of special visa program combined with tax breaks could be a pretty generous offer to TSMC to setup shop onshore.

I assume it's pretty slow, not on storage but on compute. x86 docker/podman on M1 must use QEMU software emulation, rosetta doesn't support x86 virtualization.

A downside of stateful auth is the extra DB round trip on every request. Different revocation techniques like periodically distributing a revocation list to your auth services can resolve that part of the issue.

Validating an email is different from validating a primitive. You can validate a primitive like an int based on it's own state alone.

If you use C++ tools where your dependencies get pulled in and built from source like Go does, you get the same experience. If you only have prebuilt system libraries obviously this doesn't work. It's not like Go's tooling is
