See my earlier comment: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=23035383 . I've worked at two FAANG companies plus Uber, if that helps.

If it helps, I've seen https://checkr.com/ , https://www.accurate.com/ and https://www.hireright.com/ used for these type of checks. I don't know if you can do one-off checks, but

Amazon is very clear when you're hired that you're not allowed to represent the company or it's positions on social media or anywhere publicly without getting permission. You can agree or disagree with that policy, but it

Do you have Amazon Fresh available? You might have to check through the day to get a slot, but it's been a life saver for our family.

I've worked with multiple people at FANG companies without degrees. Not sure what data points you are seeing?

On the flip side, hiring is much easier since the employer doesn't have to go through so much red tape for hires that don't work out. There's tradeoffs to each method.

I've worked at Twitter, Facebook, Uber and Amazon. Of them, Twitter and Uber were wildly over provisioned in engineering headcount. Amazon was under provisioned in most of AWS. Guess which ones had massive in-fighting over projects

And yet it is the oldest existing nation with a constitutional government in which the people elect their own government and representatives. It's always been a work in progress and always will be.

My hypothesis is that this style of office is detrimental to most software engineers. Not sure how to prove that though!

Yes, we should create licenses, and it should be vetted by the existing media institutions to make sure the opinions and facts are correct!

I really tried to read this, but it was so bad I wonder if it was generated by a script. The whole thing was pointless minutiae. Surely the author was getting paid by the word.

To clarify, you are ok with outing LGBTQ folks as long as there is no discernible repercussions?

GPL 2 usually wasn’t a problem, but version 3 is significantly limiting open source use in the industry.

Would you support Uber hiring all the California drivers, and then forcing them to only drive on their platform? If so, do you think that would be better or worse for the drivers and consumers?

Amazon entry level software engineer in Seattle starts at over 100k and senior goes way up from there. Particularly with the stock gains of AMZN, engineers are highly compensated.

When I worked there we had continuous deployment with pipelines straight into Lambda in native AWS. There’s so many different teams at Amazon I wouldn’t take anyone’s advice that claim they can speak for all of development there.

Won’t this just mean that Uber hires all their drivers, prevents them from driving on another service, waits for Lyft to die and then raise rates?

The document states he claimed he was going to work at his relative's gas station, which seems plausible. This is a visa violation, and would get you denied from basically every country in the world.
