The part about managers thinking less of you because you do not negotiate is completely true. Everybody wants an awesome negotiator under them. Just like if you solve P=NP on the white board on the interview will mark you as the wizard, neg

Yes, I work with 12 other people, 6 check-in all the time-everywhere, and 2 others say they use to read reviews. Majority in a minority? Maybe... but still used.

I had the same thought, but maybe our research would "feel" like a research. It would have forms, focus groups, funding, schedules... a very different situation than his, I presume.

Although I mostly side with Tiel on his observations, to be fair you're comparing a century to a decade. And in hindsight it is easy to tell what was a breakthrough. Remember that when computers were invented few thought that we would have

My granularity is: Different things go on different commits. For example, you can include 30 files and hundreds of lines in one changeset if they are all related to the new feature X, but do not in the same changeset correct the indentation

It's not the way this particular startup implemented Scrum. If you're doing fixed-length iterations, I've seem many times managers/PO asking for some stories to be done during the next cycle. Now, some people will say "You're doing it wrong

Agreed, and let me add typing speed is important to 90% of a programmer's activity outside a source code editor. The changeset commit message, the bug tracker description, the status report email, commenting on Hacker News... ;) Anyone who

I actually do not know how much environmental impact my desktop PC (and a 22" monitor) made. Worse than my 42" TV? Like a car panel or maybe a dozen cellphones? I just don't know its costs. And I would need more details before answering the

Good tests are almost a pre-requisite to continuous deployment. Usually code is only deployed after passing the tests. Check what "continuous integration" is. You can do continuous deployment without an automated test suite. Heck, I've ha

Most of their work is commissioned, that is, some(one/group/thing) comes to them and ask for their opinion, or they sell topical reports once in a while. Most think tanks have a bias, and have their "findings" used as justifications.

Yes, or more precisely, good outbound links counts on your favor. I've never heard of a site being "penalized" for not having links, but I'm sure having good links is good for the website (and also, having bad links is bad to your website).
