TLDR: The program aims to develop methods and tools that allow people to confidently open documents and trust what they see on their screens, reducing vulnerabilities in file formats and addressing the risks associated with malicious data p

At an AI meetup in San Francisco someone said this: “Imagine a newsroom where you have to produce a daily newspaper and you suddenly stop getting feeds from the outside world. Your earlier newspapers are the only source.” This is what to me

Either way it is the start of search engine’s decline. - Generated content added to LLM. QED. - Generated content added to SERP. DEAD. ;-)

Wouldn’t this be the equivalent of ranking? I thought LLM are not supposed to get influenced by freshness.

Side effect: Search engine content if not detected for generated content would be the first to suffer.

Great points and each one of them is a foundational item to pull something off and keep it decentralized and open. Love to chat more on what are the possibilities, existing tools, and advancements needed on those. Where can I find you on th

A simple HTTP example is content compression. A header communicates whether the incoming payload is compressed and the algorithm used. Backward compatible! Better bandwidth utilization.

Thanks for NNTP mention. As an analogy a lot happened to HTTP and other protocols to increase user experience, better content deliverability, and control. Can this be done to a modern NNTP protocol?

Most of these platforms are highly opinionated—-colors, buttons, text to dissuade or attract users of one specific kind.

Data storage would be a big question and a design goal for something new and decentralized. Back then it was mostly text and files were much smaller. Now average image floating around is the size of a cheap USB stick.

Choosing to be anonymous is one thing but not verifying the identity is another. Why do we favor content from anonymous identities that disrupt the flow—-is a big question running as mods for communities.

Interesting how much we know almost nothing about human brains. 1. Dunning Kruger in 1999 on overconfidence when unskilled. 2. Selection bias in favor of “quick thinkers” 3. Compounding effect of selection bias in capitalism—-often survivor

Not everything needs venture capital. That was the idea to find outliers and invest in world impacting outcomes. Probably the best meritocratic allocation of capital.

Venture capital is one of the foremost in meritorious selection of ideas—but the author is complaining about how recent shenanigans is inflecting a decline in this wonderful asset allocation.

Venture capital was risk capital designed to invest in outliers—-has graduated to a homogenous selection based on college, past-company, access to network.

The article does make some valid points about selection bias on who gets money and who doesn’t. I remember another report where 46% of capital went to alumni of top 10 colleges.

This reminds me of the time when I wrote a cgi script. Basically instructing the templating engine (a very crude regex) to replace session variables, database lookups to the merge fields: Hello {{firstname}}! 1996 and 2023 smells alike.
