Yep, there are certainly exceptions! It's not a blanket rule. Rants aren't quite as much fun if you equivocate for the 5% case though. =)

I imagine you've read it, but if you haven't, you may want to read about the LMAX architecture (from which they created the well-known Disruptor) because they dealt with this exact same problem: http://martinfowler.com&

If you're interested in the historical setting of Longitude (and why it's in Greenwich to begin with), I highly recommend Dava Sobel's _Longitude_: http://www.amazon.com/Longitude-Genius-Greatest-Scientific-P.

This is super cool work from Ian here. Go is quickly engendering a renaissance in command line programs and other services that run in hostile environments. I talked about this in my GopherCon 2014 talk: if you want to build quality code an

Of the complaints you can make about Go's type system (and there are many), being too complex is not one of them.

I disagree. Of the various approaches I've seen to cope with this problem, Rust's try! macro is the most elegant. Given the practical minded nature of Go and the core team's willingness to add in special cases to the language

It would be nice to credit me since I developed this approach (down to using Redis with Lua scripts) two years ago at Twilio: http://vimeo.com/52569901 If you developed the approach entirely without having seen my talk then

Your point is well taken. The thing is that ngrok does not do anything useful beyond printing out the help text when double-clicked, and without the text, I'd be worried that a user might actually try to double-click it again when it

Apparently Armon built one too a few weeks ago [1] I think I'd like to move muxado in a direction where it provides the common interface to the various stream multiplexers. That way you could code against a common interface and swap ou

This is by far the most common suggestion that's been suggested to me that I hadn't considered before. I like it a lot, and I wouldn't be surprised if I ended up implementing this. Another possible alternative I'm consid

I disagree with respect to a pay gate. A payment gate on ngrok, even something as simple as requiring a credit card number would pose a significant barrier for a large swath of ngrok users. As some motivating evidence I can tell you: I'

Sadly not. There is no delegation of authority for domains. If you are trusted to sign, you can sign anything. ngrok does see and ignore all of the decrypted traffic before it re-encrypts through the tunneled connection. This will change so

This automation was just a first step. This is an area that is rather completely new to me. I've never worked in the hosting world or had to deal with this type of problem personally. I certainly have a lot to learn. Can you talk about

Make sense and I agree. Thanks for the feedback! Unfortunately, ngrok's new protocol is optimized very heavily for speed which comes with a cost in complexity of both the protocol and the clients that implement it.

Very cool. ngrok doesn't have a programmatic API, but I'd love to add one soon. I've built out a library for this in https://github.com/inconshreveable/go-tunnel that will be the foundation for ngrok

I've made ngrok completely open source and permissively licensed, I'd suggest using it rather than reinventing your own. Feel free to contact me about it.
